The numbers he posted are NPD.
The 3DS numbers are fairly poor, it's just everything else is even worse.
DS in May (US)
2007: 423k
2008: 453k
2009: 633.5k
2010: 383.7k
2011: can't seem to find May, but April was 357k and June 243k
In fact, May 2007 saw the DS, Wii, PSP, PS2, and 360 all above this month's 3DS sales. All by a pretty substantial margin based on the 3DS estimate. Closest was the 360 at 155k. In 2008 the PS3 joined them with every piece of hardware outselling the 3DS figures this month. Actually, with the exception of the PS2/PSP this continued until 2012 when the Wii and DS dropped as well.
