What are you talking about? Did I say it was going to go away? No I didn't, and on a side note yes using physical money is also dying I personally don't even hold paper cash anymore.

Well when something dies, yes it generally goes away.

I said dying- which means it's in the process of going away.

Um..............

Um what? Lets get this all in one response physical forms of media are dying. I don't think they are going away completely but they are dying and will become less relevant as time goes on. By the way, in no way am I defending the Xbox One just stating how I see the future unfolding in regards to entertainment (More digital and less physical).

First off physical media is NOT going away. No other media has have that happen so i dont know what alternate reality some are living in where they see that is the case.

OT What i will do? NOthing, just like 360 was beating PS3 i still bought PS3 and enjoyed it along with WIi. If we go all digital, i will either just stick to PC which is far superior in that field anyway or just stop gaming.

While its not going to completely go away...It is also true that more an more gaming is becoming a digital event and sooner or later gaming from a disc will be considered retro. They will still exist of course but in a very limited fashion.

When you say limited, what do you mean? Because people have been saying the same thing for books, newspapers, music, movies for years and none of those are limited. I can go to the store and get those just fine. Well except maybe books, but theres Amazon for that. video game files are much bigger than anything i listed and bandwidth needed...a lot of people are just not there yet. SO if the video game industry wants to really go ahead with that, they are going to see the install base shrink like never before.

FYI MS isnt ahead of anyone, SOny already had an all digital game machine.

The physical forms of books, newspapers, music, and movies are dying if you didn't notice.

I really have to back oniyide on this one. Books and newspapers have a microscopic digital footprint, and even HQ movies aren't that big. Blu-Ray disks mean that next-gen games will be upwards of 50GB, possibly 100. Hard disks shall clutter and ISPs weep with every Call of Duty release.

I think there are a lot of other factors that people aren't taking into account in these discussions generally speaking. It would definitely be a bad move to go digital only at this point, and you might say X1 is more forward thinking in this regard, but that is a very speculative assumption. The future of technology is likely to have its next biggest change in the next 5 - 10 years as silicon is reaching certain limits of performance, and newer technologies are currently being researched by prestigious institutions and Intel. Having my game library on the cloud for any physical media I bought is a neat feature, but not exactly necessary and more of a pain than just bringing a game disc to a friend's house and being able to play it quickly with out having to sign in / authenticate download and install the game. Furthermore, as the tech of the next gen of consoles will likely be utilizing something other than silicon chipsets I would not be able to utilize that game library with out some sort of streaming feature.

x1 will still have some excellent gaming capabilities and some neat multimedia features. However, I feel the TV one is mostly pointless as I can get an app for that on my phone/tablet so there is no real need for this feature. I think the major point of concern is that while a lot of these restrictions may not affect a portion of the gaming community they will not be able to capture a lot of other areas, and was with the x3 vs ps3 people will play what their friends are playing as well so there is a higher likelihood of that swinging the ps4's favor.

Currently sure but what I'm refering to is the future. Physical forms of media are becoming less relevant take a look at Netflix. Their is a reason blockbuster and Hollywood video are out of business and in the process of going out of business. I agree that we aren't at the point yet where digital is huge but it will get their wether or not we want it. Another example is music who even buys physical copies of music anymore? I don't even have to comment on newspapers.

I would buy one and sell my ps4 at my yard sale

Well when you especially look at the younger generation they are a generation that is much more into digital entertainment. Its the older generation that is much more used to physical media. If you have noticed Even many newspapers are operating in the red, because of very low subscription count. Many of them are going more towards online offerings. Physical media of movies is still fairly strong in some aspects and blu ray has helped with that, but look at your average rental shop like blockbuster, family video, hollywood video, ect. Many of them are going out of business. In my area 10 years ago we had dozens of them. Now maybe just a few if that. It may be somewhat slower for Movies, but more and more people are turning to streaming and digital options. Going digital is not only more convenient for consumers but it can be more profitable for the distributor in many cases, because it cuts out a layer. Instead of Developer, Publisher, Platform, Retail it becomes Developer, Publisher, Platform. Cuts out cost of retail. As gamers get more used to digital gaming they will realize how much more convenient it is. Therefore the same thing that is happening to movie rental stores will happen to game retail. Its sad for those retail industries, but conveinience always seems to win out. Especially with the younger generation.

Wrong the younger generation will not embrace it because mommy and daddy are not going to shell out 60+ every time little Timmy wants a new game. What will happen is you will see a lot less games being bought because they simply cannot afford to buy them anymore. Im sure most of us here depended on the used game market to buy games when we were much younger and had no source of income at all. YOu can only have that WITH physical media.

There are still physical copies, so my point still stands, until we see any of those medias go ALL digital you dont have a leg to stand on. Im not saying digital wont be there but show me where physical has been completely phased out.

Doing it half assed with a bastardized handheld console product and putting all your eggs in to the all-digital console basket are not the same thing...

The OP seems to think we are going to head all digital anyway. ANd if that happens then MS deserves no credit cause someone had already done it before. How was it halfassed? If anything what MS is doing right now is halfassed, either make an all digital machine or just stick to how consoles have been functioning for years.

Xbox One is a digital machine...All digital. The disk drive is there for bluray movies and due to internet still being limited and internet bandwidth being capped in some countries. This game disk for Xbox One is not the game but a game distribution device.

What Microsoft is doing here isn't anything new...its just new for home consoles. A similar DRM management Microsoft have already implemented with Windows phone, Windows 8, Office 365...etc.

No wonder those things suck and arent doing that hot. But really, we will see how well it does and right now, its just isnt looking to good. But anything can happen and maybe MS will carve out a nice niche for itself, but im 90 percent sure this thing will not take off like some people believe it will
