Tlou probably sold 1.5m ww including digital sales. Lets say each copy was sold for $70. $70 because special editions and games in EU being €60/70. Thats just around $105 million, which is half of what MoS did first weekend. ¡
srry my friends. man of steel made 128m over the wk end.

Yeah I think this is about profits The Last Of Us was profitable from day one I'm guessing it already sold over 2 million copies. Man Of Steel has to gross $500 million world wide before it makes a profit since it has big buget and probably also has a big add budget though some of that cost was reduced with products tie ins Twizzlers etc. etc. |
It's not about profits, they have no way of calculating profits. They don't know what back end deals the studios have made, they don't know how much the marketing budget was, they don't even have an accurate production cost. Whenever you see $200 Million Budget. That is an estimate(a budget). It is not the actual cost of the production.

probably just in the UK

The report is UK ONLY, not US or worldwide.
Talk about comparing apples to oranges.
Totally different setup with royalties, costs etc for video games/movies.
Even at the most simple level a cinema ticket doesn't cost $60 just for starters and all members of a family don't buy the same game on release day in the same household, game rights don't get sold for distribution later, rarely does merchandise from video games make any real money except in exceptional circumstances (last of us defo not being one of them obviously)...
Marketting, profit share...everything is just completely different.

Yes, but it begs the question of production cost(s) for The Last Of Us. |
Production cost has absolutely zero to do with a games/movies gross earnings. Gross earnings does not mean profit. Gross earnings is how much the consumer has spent on the product, nothing else included.
The last of us would have to sell about 3.7 million copies (there are limited editions which cost more than $60) this week in order to outdo Man of Steel, and thats not even including the $170 million dollars MoS has made from endorsements/advertisements. That's $370 million dollars that MoS has already made, $200 million just from movie tickets alone which still equates to 2.5 times the amount that TLoU has grossed so far this week.
