I can see the complications of online, especially since one character's position affects the whole lot. It could end up being a big mess imo especially if lag occurs.

Little Big Planet also does the same thing where the camera follows whoever is in front. Wasn't an issue for that game's online, don't see how it would be here or anywhere else for that matter.

I'm not really familiar with LBP's online in all honesty! Yeah you're right though they are making excuses. In fact online might just be easier than multiplayer as each player gets a seperate screen!

It's actually more the users on here that are coming up with all illogical excuses as to why no online. Of course the reason Nintendo gave makes no sense either so atleast all that makes sense hehe.

There's actually one other thing that could convince me to by this game, and that's if they include a level builder and have a sharing n playing feature like LBP. That would definitely up the replay value enough for me to warrent a purchase. I actually think there is a chance of this as one of the levels shown off in the trailer looks like something that was pieced together in an editor. I wish I could show an image of it but I don'ts know how.

EDIT: Best I can do is say that on the trailer from the 3DS's eShop, 1:13-1:17 shows what I'm talking about.

This is so f*ing ridiculous at this point. I think the game is crap, and as a 2D Mario fan I'm saying some of this out of spite, but I'm sick of 3D Mario's jacking 2D Mario characteristics. But in this case, its actually quite ironic that Nintendo has treated this game like it does its 2D counterpart; crappy music, crappy graphics, and no online multiplayer.

This isn't 2009-hell, in 2009 not having online multiplayer in NSMB Wii was lame, but they got a pass. This absurd idea that local multiplayer would take a hit if they allowed the option for online mp is bull shit. I'm guessing DKC:TF won't have online multiplayer either?

This is embarrassing for Nintendo. I can't defend practices like this in 2013.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

No I'm just saying that Mario platformers have never really had an online multiplayer and no one complained so why should this one be any different? Online multiplayer really isn't that important in Mario platformers and most games in general.

Mario platformers have never really been multiplayer either, atleast not to my knowledge. But hey, now they are! NSMBWii made that so. Online play is simply expected with pretty much any multiplayer game, since why not? It was somewhat understandable with NSMBWii as it was their first multiplayer Mario platformer and that in itself was a great new feature, but it's been 3 games now. I don't think it's unfair to expect online multiplayer at this point. Also, how important or not online play is doesn't really matter. What matters is that it makes any game a better buy, and we as gamers should want better games that are worth their price tag or more.
