So I finished the Last of Us. And I was reading through reviews of the game, and people talk about Ellie being a great companion. And reviewers also said that Elizabeth has one of the greatest AI's ever.
My question to VGchartz is: Which is the better companion? And you can talk about anything. The personality of the character, their involvement in the story, even their AI!
I will start first:
As characters:
I loved Elizabeth immediately from the start, she was a very lively character and had a interesting personality. I loved when she pointed out things that she saw and of course her was tragic and also made me feel sad for her.
I was not too interested in Ellie when you first meet her, but she grew on me, like it did for Joel and I have to say it made the experience that more real, escpecially in the last level of the game, I felt the same connection Joel had with this character and videogames do not often make me feel this way.
In the game:
I have to say that I found Ellie's AI better than that of Elizabeth.
The foremost reason is that Elizabeth is just kinda there, she never gets in the way which is helpful (unlike Ellie ocassionaly). But Elizabeth is completely ignored by enemies, like she does not exist, and she does not do much but occasionaly throw bullets, health and salts at you, and open tears which is an action mostly controlled by you. When the story parts appeared she was more involved, but during the gameplay itself she was noticabely absent. At least that is how I felt.
Ellie's AI felt more involved to me because she actually saved my life in the course of the game, I was almost strangled to death twice by two human enemies in the Last of Us, and once she saved my by throwing a brick against the bastards head, so I could bash his head in. And once she stabbed another guy in the back when he almost killed me. I felt actually saved by her. Ellie as well throws some bullets to me, and she can actually get in danger (some enemies sometimes grab her and are killing her). And you rush over to safe her, but not in an annoying way (for me). I actually wanted to keep her safe for some reason. But I do have to add that enemies do not notice her when you are sneaking, which kinda breaks immersion.
I loved Bioshock Infinite & Last of Us. And both Ellie & Elizabeth are amazing!
But in the end for me, I'm gonna have to go with Ellie as a winner. I just thought or felt that she was more involved (if that is the right way to put it). I felt the same connection like Joel had with Ellie, keeping her safe.
