Forums - Sony - Supposed PS4 launch Date: Thanksgiving Weekend. Good move or bad move?

You'll get a shit tone of sales. But then the cupboards will be bare for the rest of the holiday season.

Also BF is when special deals are used to entice shoppers. You basically can't do special deals on a brand new console, or can you ( even if only bundling KZ4)?

I think it would be a bad move over all. But I'm trying to decide if pre- or post-Thanksgiving would be the better move, assuming Sony is looking at Nov/Dec.

I expect a early release but in BF is not bad at all... it is a good move.

I have been thinking about the timings of the release dates.

The main piece of evidence is Watch_Dogs. It is coming out on November 19th on all current platforms and then out on launch for the PS4. This implies to me that the PS4 is coming out after then.

Not being American, I don't know when Thanksgiving weekend is....

The other main consideration is when the Xbone is coming out. I haven't decided if it is a good thing or a bad thing to have them coming out on the same day, but I doubt that one would like being a week behind the other. There will just be massive logistical issues if the come out the same day, or if they come out around Black Friday

I believe Microsoft have actually specified November, so I would guess they were both coming out around the week of the 25th.

I think an early release would be better, early being something which could line up with Assassins Creed/BF4. Late october/early november.

black friday ... yeah it is a good launch date.

i feel like it's a bad thing. it's kind of like having your birthday on christmas. black friday is already going to be huge in sale for everyone. why waste your early-adaptor/day-1 sales spike by launching on the same day as the black friday sales spike?

..they should launch earlier by at least a week. 2 would be better.

Terrible day. I refuse to leave my house that day. People get hurt out there.

4 ≈ One

Black Friday is a good lunch date because people have the whole weekend to play PS 4 but it won't actually help sales. like the wiiu last year on Black Friday nobody was buying it. everyone bought
the cheaper discount systems but then again Preorderd are to be sold out so it may not matter anyway

Both the xb1 and ps4 will be out for bf it's a no brainer. You will have immediate sell out of your product and you can begin the holiday craze of shortages to drive demand even higher.

If they push release date up there is no harm on than that but bf has to be successful or you won't get the press of being the must have item.

Having worked in retail, I can tell you black friday would be a horrible time to launch a console.

First of all, obviously stores have a lot of sales going on, making a console launch a minor part of the day. That means employees will be very busy, not able to answer questions or attch accessories or anything to the console. Also, if a product isnt where it is supposed to be, good luck finding it on black friday.

Then there is the fact that stores will be so full of products that they may not even be able to hold a full shipment of a new console, or the games/accessories. Stores dont even take new movies on thanksgiving week, that is how full they are.

Basically, launching on black friday is stupid. The first ps4 shipment will sell out immediately no matter what day it comes out. It should have a dedicated event that will allow the store to focus on the product rather than an after thought like it would be on black friday.
