Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft "exploring ways" to bring XBLA games to Xbox One

OXMUK

Xbox Live Arcade games won't be playable on Xbox One - or will they? Phil Spencer told Gamespot as much last month, but a Microsoft spokesperson has suggested that there's room for hope in an email Q&A with OXM.

"We saw great consumer response to digital titles on Xbox 360, which can continue to be played on Xbox 360 consoles," read the statement provided to support our feature in the new issue of OXM. "We are exploring ways to bring gamers' favourite content to the new Xbox, but do not have any additional information to announce at this time."

Given that Xbox One is not backwards compatible with Xbox 360, it's likely Microsoft's "explorations" apply only to the best-received XBLA titles, which may effectively be rebuilt for the new machine rather than arriving care of an emulator. Do Guardian of Light and Fez first, Microsoft - I've yet to finish either.

Another possibility, of course, is that we'll have to pay again for the privilege of playing these games on the new console - Minecraft Xbox One will be sold as a new experience, for instance. Microsoft's choice of words ("bring content to") suggests otherwise, however.

Microsoft execs have stressed the fact that Xbox 360 profile data (and in particular, achievements) will carry over to Xbox One. "You don't have a separate identity on Xbox One," first-party boss Phil Spencer commented in the chat with Gamespot. "It's the same, you are you. My friend's network is the same on both boxes, my achievements are the same.

"We think that service component is an important component to keep constant across both devices." Shared game libraries would seem very appropriate to your vision, Phil.

Aka "in the works" for eternity.

Happens too often. I don't see Gaikai being a good solution to PS3 BC either. They're always going to say "we're working on it" even if they're not.

Rebuy for Xbone.

This would be fantastic. XBLA has the best library of digital games as far as consoles go. I have about 25 games like I would love to carry on playing in the next gen.

if i could bring idk $200 or $300 whatever its worth of xbla games over, that might make me at least think about one eventually.

Companies always do this. Leave the door open, but never have an intention of actually going theoguh with it. Remember sony and the psp go? They were looking at ways to give consumers a way to get their umds on the psp go, it never happened.

My view, since it was annouced that the x1 was not backwards compatible, then you will never see your content transition to the x1. Only exception would be if the content is remade for the x1 and you buy it again.
