Forums - Sony - Sony Raises Its Sales Forecast For PlayStation 4

Oh and i was going to say:

It's all still in the air, there is a good 5 months until consoles come out and things can change. We dont know yet if either will have production problems, OS problems (wii-u) or in MS's case game activation issues. There is *ALOT* we don't know yet which will certainly have an impact on what happens in terms of sales.

Sony could screw up their production (they haven't started mass production yet), and can you imagine what would happen Day 1 if people cannot log into the PSN/MS systems, and even worse for MS not activate their games. All these launch day issues could drastically change the amount of sales that each console gets.

A few years ago I really believed that people who have invested lots of time/money and achievements into a console would be less likely to move to a competitor. I used to think, no way would i want to not start my trophy score from scratch... but as games companies have made some of them so difficult to obtain, I've become less and less bothered about them - and i think many are the same... while i think companies perhaps considered people were "locked" into a system. I have an iphone, but ive now got an android phone... same thing.

One thing i do know, is that its going to be an exciting 5-6 months.

No 2013 Japan release semi-confirmed. I hope Wii U starts picking up there.

Why or how does this lead to you to believe that?

Sony has not yet announced they will be releasing the PlayStation 4 in Japan and other markets outside the US and Europe. It was just last month that Sony told CVG that Europe will be given a much higher priority since they felt that Microsoft will be giving a strong push in the territory."This E3 we confirmed that in the US and Europe we will be launching this holiday with the $399 (£349) price point," Yoshida told CVG in an interview. "But it's not like we are not launching in other territories - we are waiting to get more information about manufacturing quantities and demand in each market so that we are able to decide where and when outside of the US and Europe."

Japan isn't a priority, and it shouldn't be. MS isn't a threat there and Wii U numbers speak for itself.

Japan will still be the second largest market for them. They have a lot to announce at TGS, while I do think PS3 is Sony's primary focus for Japan.

Funny, I remember when they claimed that they would sell 16 million units within year one. I thought they were crazy, now I m thinking they could sell more if they can make that many. Which is what I think they are doing right now. They better be making 10 million console for launch at the very least. We might have a record-breaker in our hand. Better have extras while you are perceived favorably then have a shortage.

Dd you actually just say they will sell 10m at launch? "At the very least"

lol, that's hilarious.

people REALLY are getting ahead of themselves aren't they.

16m was for PS3, PS4 and PS2 by the way.... By the end of March 2014.

No, I was not saying that they would sell 10 million at launch. I was saying that they should have ten million units so that they could meet their demand. Therefore it was better to have EXTRAS. Sometimes I wonder if people read. In other words a consumer walks into a store to buy a ps4 but they re sold out. The consumer wants to go next gen so he buys something else. It happens, that's how I got my wii.

If you think PS2 is dead now.. PS3 will do about 10 million?

If we look at the Wii-u predictions, they expected to do 4-5 million from launch...with good sentiment on the PS4 its possible that it could do 4-6 million by march... thats probably why they are saying 16 million.

I think it has a very good chance of beating the Wii-u's launch figures, even though it has competition from the XboxOne (remember the wii-u didn't)... So i would say 5-6 million would be a good target.

PS2 is not dead yet... Sony never confirmed that... and evey console ends Sony make a PR to tell that (for now only for PS1).

PS3 10 million is the forecas from Sony... it's not me... Sony thinks they will sell 10 million PS3 and for now they are on track to that.

I agree with you... just explainning that the 10 million PS3 is projected by Sony.

Eh...not only do we not know what their forecasts were so this could be PR spin, but the hype is extreme after E3. If it continues through to launch then great, but if I were running a business I wouldn't say these things after 3 days.

I would have to say PR spin, to get more people to preorder by creating a concept of a shortage, whilst being 5 months away based on 3 days of pre-orders as I said.

If not, however, then great.

I doubt it's a PR spin.  Most Gamestop stores have preorders sold out.  Amazon sold out of their day one PS4 stock and the non day one PS4 is in first place sales.

A PR spin is Reggie on CNBC stating t hat it's hard to keep the Wii U on shelves, yet during that announcement there was atleast 15 consoles at any store you walked into.  Don't tell me that casual gamers were only interested in the premium version as well.  Well.  We know that's not true anymore :P.

Funny French websites (which have partnership with retailers of course) were also urging people to preorder right away this morning. Nintendo said the same thing about WiiU last year, predicting shortages to boost preorders.

I'll put my order when it has a firm release date.

No japan unfortunately outside of handhelds is not even close to being the second biggest market for either hardware or software for any system, (see current hardware/software number for japan only) and unless there is a huge seawall change next gen it will continue to become less and less relevant from a total sales standpoint.

I do wonder when they will announce a release date.

For those in the USA, Sony have now a set of Game/PSN Discount/Console/Day1 bundles. So they must have at least an idea of how many/when they are getting them.

Well the standard edition is selling better than xbox's launch day eidition. I never would have expected anything like this.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Japan:

PS3 - 9.3 million | 58 million
Wii - 12.7 million | 67 million

UK:

PS3 - 5.8 million | No data from VGC

Wii - 8.7 million | No data from VGC

Do you have any data that says otherwise?
