I get annoyed when people keep comparing the PS4 to the Wii U by specs and stuff. Gamers need to learn that Nintendo and Sony are not competiting to better then one another by doing the same thing that the other console can do, their both heading down their own route doing what they both do best which different from one another. Wii U have its exclusive features and games and Sony whit its exculsive features. I don't consider the Wii U a secondary console because there no other console like it in the number one spot.

To make the story short, how I see the PS4 and Wii U is how I see the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, no need to compare specs or argue which game look better because their bother different from one another. Yes third party plays a heavy roll in the industry, but I have a feeling as the gen move along, indies and exclusives are going to play a even bigger roll. Probably why we seen alot of talk about exclusives from Microsoft and Sony.

Yes I will be picking up a PS4 and upgrading my Wii U when a new version release.

Every console competes with the consoles of the other manufacturers. Always. They compete for us to buy and play our games on it more than on another console. WiiU is competing with the other consoles.

But.

The thing is that, due to Nintendo realizing that they couldn't compete with Sony and MSoft in the specs war and therefore focusing on other ways to interact with the games rather than power as well as the fact that 3rd parties are using that as an excuse/opportunity to avoid launching their games on its console, will make that the WiiU will end with a catalog of games unlike that of the PS4/X1.

That will make the idea of owning 2 consoles, a WiiU and a PS4/X1 or a PS4/X1 and a WiiU (take it the way you want), a more attractive option for some people. Specially if Nintendo continues the partnership with 3rd parties to develop exclusives for them.

For a moment i was going to completly disagree with the OP, but this comment  kinda cleared everything up in a way that expressed my opinion and yet melded it with his in a way.

yes specs or system are very different, but they came from the same line of product, which is a gaming console...

i guess you meant like a genre in the genre?
like luxury car doesnt compete with economy car?
i f that is the point... i guess you are kinda right since their main market are a little different... but in the gaming world, mostly they base it on time line.... but i still do think they compete directly...

I think, going forward from the PS4/XO launch, Nintendo needs to cut the price of the Wii U, or they WILL be in direct competition. It's hard to ask people to buy two consoles at those prices. Nintendo could make the Wii U very attractive as a second console at a cheaper price point, though.

Wii U will clearly be just as distinct, library-wise, as Wii, with just a touch more multiplats (seems Ubisoft is carrying on for now, at least). Whether it succeeds or fails sales-wise, that's going to all be on Wii U, not on what the competition does or fails to do.

As of right now, I don't see how that's possible. Aren't they still losing money on each unit sold? If not, then I agree with you.

NintendoPie: I'm not sure If there still have a lose per each system, all I know is that they make a profit for every game they sell digitally and retail and the eShop so far (3DS wise) have been a massive success for them so far. wonder how much Animal Crossing sold digital at launch,
