Will sell out at launch. Price wont matter at launch.
Wait 6 months after and we will see.

What a plan. Those MS guys are real geniuses Why didn't they make it 1000$. Imagine a 600$ price cut. PS4 would be destroyed in a second.
Like many have stated, the early adopters and core gamers know what they want and will pay whatever Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo charge at launch. So pre-order sellouts don't mean much.
It's the long term that matters and people who are buying PS4 and XBox1 for their loved ones will look at the 2 boxes at a store or online and see a $100 dollar difference.
Even Sony, with its 2 record selling machines, PS1 and PS2, couldn't overcome the stigma of a $600 price tag. They had bluray, a bigger hdd, all the IO devices you could ask and backwards compatibility and it was a dud. It took 7 years, several feature cuts with newly released hardware and a ton load of exclusives/incentives to win back the consumer. You think Microsoft (who is currently 3rd in sales though they likely made more money off their machine than Sony) can overcome that stigma without the high adoption rate and brand loyalty Sony had? Just because it has a Kinect in the box and a more robust online service (which are both mandatory despite consumer negativity).
To me, Sony learned their lesson. Microsoft is making a big mistake. Just look at Microsoft's tablets and phones...trying to sell electronics at a higher premium than bigger branded rivals like Apple and Samsung. People don't care about all the added functionality if they have to pay a high price. That's the bottom line.
Wont matter until the consoles are no longer supply constrained. Demand always out strips supply at a console launch. Once supply has caught up to demand though, it will be obvious that 399 is a more marketable price...

That is why I just answered his question about price. ATM no one cares and there was a great article written about a lot of this stuff earlier explaining Microsoft's Apple like effect with their brand.

So far, the coverage I’ve seen online has been decidedly pro-Sony, thanks largely to the lower price of the PS4—$399 vs. $499 for the Xbox One. But let’s give Microsoft their due: Xbox fans are easily the most fanatical of any video game audience, and the one customer group from which the firm derives Apple-style loyalty. At $100 more than the PS4, the Xbox One will sell out handily this holiday season, thanks solely to these fans. Microsoft can then lower the price in 2014 as the console moves to more markets
But it’s not all coming up PS4. Sony doesn’t offer the same range of amazing media services that Microsoft does, and it certainly offers no TV integration capabilities, as is possible with the Xbox One. These markets are much bigger than the market for console video game players.
Ultimately, E3 is just a slice in time, and one thing Microsoft has done well between its May reveal of the Xbox One and this week’s show is keep future customers in the loop about its plans. I expect this to continue, and that Microsoft and Sony will find the market not as lopsided this fall as was the coverage this week at E3.
There’s no way to look at this week’s events and make an accurate prediction about which company will win the coming generation of console sales. But here’s one thing we can all agree on: It won’t be Nintendo.

My point is it doesnt matter in 2013. It will matter in the future. So if the MS adjusts prices to be the same as PS4 in a year then MS made a smart play.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
If MS didn't have the DRM on their hands $100 would be less meaningful because of the awesomeness that is Kinect.
But with the DRM? Makes for a tough pill to swallow.
It's just that simple.
I don't know if it will matter much. I'd say it won't matter in the USA, but it might make a difference in the other regions. The way I see it, whoever had a 360, internet 24/7 and no problems with DRM will stick with Microsoft. All the other people who had a 360 and no internet will most likely flock to the PS4.
does price ever matter lol, maybe only for poor people lol, not like us the one percent gamers :D

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
It'd definitely have an impact. I don't expect Sony to stomp a mudhole in MS's ass at launch from day one, but it'll definitely help in a big way.
