Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo hardly showed anything new AT ALL; have they run out of ideas? (Rant)

The problem isn't just that though. It's that they aren't even doing much to rock the boat for the IPs they are using. That was the main argument they had for leaning on Mario and Zelda all these years. They've done far more interesting things with 3D Mario games than 3D World, and already have plenty of other old IPs that Retro could've worked on. Instead, they're doing another Donkey Kong Country game.

How much better is that then doing a crapton of Halo and God of War games exactly?

This! You're totally getting where I'm coming from!

Getting what, that Retro made a sequel to a Nintendo game? What the fuck logic is this guys?

They will do a 3D Mario in time, anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Ugh no this is NOT applicable to Sony. I went to town on them in the vita thread for their vita handling last night so they definitely have things they need to be criticized over. But bringing new IPs and ideas is not one of them.

Well then Sony has two things that need to be criticized. Because this is also applicable to them. (Uncharted... Killzone...)

You're absolutely right NinPie, but this thread about Nintendo. I'm expecting MORE from them. That's why Zelda or Mario never goes stale! They always have NEW ideas; they might rehash the names of their characters, but it's always new games.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Are you being serious?

Close the thread, the WiiFit instructor seems to be a character in Super Smash Bros. If THAT isn't an unique idea I have no idea how you guys ever will be satisfied :P

Oh LOL! That is so true :D

I want to defend Nintendo. Sure they showed games and reliable IP's. But with a console that has no momentum and the competition close to launch new consoles, I expected Nintendo to deliver a game changer, a great strategy. Those games are not going to change anything at all.

If they only had those games to show then they should have back it up with either a price cut or some great new service, maybe Gamecube virtual console, HD remasters (besides Zelda), something.

You have no idea what you're talking about if you're being serious about bold.

Nintendo will make a 3D Mario, it's not like between Galaxy 1 and 2 they didn't make NSMB either.........

But over the last 2 E3s nintendo bought  Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, Zombie U, New Super MArio Bros U and Nintendo Land. This is literally a summation of E3 2011+2012 combined. Its really not an achievement to beat that.

the gave us a lot though even though I don't like their decision with mario and retro

I think part of the  fuss is:

1. People expected something big from retro, designed to show of the Wii U. As it stands the new DK would probably be better suited as a 3DS title.
2. Mario, the game that is supposed to hold crown of best game ever rated and compel people to buy the system looks very pedestrian compared to its ambitious predeccessors
3. The fact that this wasn't a live press conference sucked a ton of the energy from it, no fan fare for the mega man announcement etc.

I don't think it was terrible, I just think it was safe and unremakable. For a team with virtually no 3rd party support, its required they work harder to fill that vacancy. On a positive note the glimpses of watch dogs looks brilliant, assuming it was running off Wii U hardware.

As opposed to... a bunch of shooters and some racing games on the other consoles? C'mon.

But the thing is I'm not comparing Nintendo with others. I'm comparing Nintendo to Nintendo. I'm not expecting Sony or MS to ALWAYS reinvent their franchises, but I do from Nintendo. Just look at Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy... Nothing like each other! Or Zelda Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker... Mario 3D World is just Mario 3D Land U....

Retro is working working on other stuff, they didn't make Prime forever and DKCR doesn't require as much effort as Metroid Prime so just keep your pants on.....

I both get and don't get where you are coming from. Not surprised? Understandable. They played it safe, their console was failing so they needed something that would work.

Always expect Nintendo to re-invent? Well, that's just too much to ask.
