Forums - Nintendo - Are you glad or disappointed Retro´s Wii U game is another DKC?

Well, I'm indifferent to be honest.

Let's be honest, the game itself looks brilliant. It really does. The platforming really looks like top of the line. However, did Retro need to make this game? Is this Retro's big game we've been waiting for the last couple of years? It can't be. It just can't, there's something else. There must be.

Well, DKCR did sell exceedingly well. Maybe all that time was spent on creating metric craptons of content.

And let me get this: Retro hired developers, artist, designers, including some that worked in Virgil and Naughty Dog, to make this game?

Sure, Retro hired people from inferior studios, but that shouldn't make you worried about the quality of this game. I am confident that the new guys will live up to the standard that is expected from them.

Oh wow... Rol... wow... Inferior studios? I guess Naughty Dog DIDN'T create one of the most critically acclaimed games this gen...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I am happy. Any game from Retro gets me excited. Kind of surprised that people were overjoyed when they announced they were doing it on the Wii but now hate Retro that they are doing a sequel on the Wii U.

First time around it was genuinely exciting and shocking for Retro to do this, second time around we've had years (literally) of rumours about new ip's, and letting them do what they want, etc. We keep telling ourselves that Retro is the new Rare, and Retro will do what Nintendon't, but its a business.

Retro are actually the new Rare, under the control and will power of a massive force (MS), where they do what they're told and they don't have a choice.

QFT!!

Donkey Kong is all nice and dandy, but it won't convince me to buy the actual system!

I fail to see the comparison. Retro hasn't made a bad game yet, and Rare hasn't made a really good one in over a decade.

Plus Retro's projects have always been chosen by their superiors. If I recall, DKCR was probably the first game they actually were really wanting to make, and it so happened that Miyamoto wanted a DKC as well.

And therein lies the comparison.

I'm sure Rol would say something like "Naughty Dog doesn't make games". I don't agree, but I also won't proclaim Naughty Dog superiority until they un-cancel Jak 4.

It did, and we will probably get one of the best games of the generation, so it's certainly a logical choice to make this game. I however meant to say (but forgot to actually say it ); couldn't some other Nintendo studio have made the bulk of this game after Retro layed the framework with the Wii game?

I don't know what to tell you. Not all of Rare's post-Nintendo games were concieved by Microsoft - Grabbed By the Ghoulies is a fantastic example.

And apparently Xbox Avatars were Rare's brainchild... *shudder*

Maybe, but Monster Games was too busy with the 3DS port.

I don't know how anyone could be bummed after watching the trailer. The game looks awesome, and it's a much needed arrival of one of Nintendo's big guns to the Wii U. I can't wait to get my hands on it. It's not an HD upgrade of an existing Donkey Kong Country, it's a completely new game after all. One that looks amazing in my opinion.

No, Rol says that critical acclaim doesn't mean much when the average reviewer highly favors cinematic games.

And if DanneSandin wants to take the stance that The Last of Us/the Uncharted series is better than the Metroid Prime series or that any of Naughty Dog's platformers were better than Donkey Kong Country Returns, then he should hand over his Nintendo gamer badge, because he is obviously not deserving it for such blatant lies.

Eh, close enough.

But yes, I do agree that Retro has developed better action/adventure games and platformers. Naughty Dog's strengths nowadays lie in multiplayer and cutscenes.

Though I still think Jak 4 would be great, because I don't remember the last time there has been a good open world 3D platformer.
