This is how I see it.

Let's assume the final instal base before the 9th gen comes rolling around will be around 250m (similar as it is today; fewer casuals will buy consoles, but the gaming market has been growing steadily since 1985 and will continue to do so imo), and taking into account that XboxOne is $100 more expansive than PS4 and that PS3 has caught up to Xbox360 - even though launching one year later and costing more, I think it's safe to say that XboxOne will have a much slower adoption rate than PS4.

In the year 2020, if the casuals buy into the XboxOne multimedia thing:
PS4: 100m
Wii U: 50m
XboxOne: 80m

In the year 2020, if casuals DON'T buy into Xbox multimedia functions:
PS4: 110m
Wii U: 60m
Xbox: 60m

In the year 2020, if Sony comes to dominate:
PS4: 120m
Wii U: 40m
Xbox: 50m

In the year 2020, if Nintendo gets their shit together:
PS4: 100m
Wii U: 80m
Xbox: 60m

Me too.  Which is why I won't buy an X1, I can not play games on it. Sony announced last night I can play games on PS4.  That's  a huge deal for me as I buy consoles to play games.  I understand others opinion differ, but choice has never been more pronounced and decisive for me in gaming history.

I think it's silly to predict lifetime sales for anything about this point. Who would have predicted Sony could turn the PS3 around, or that Kinect/Slim would give 360 such a boost? Or that Wii would tail off so quickly.

Whilst placings seem fairly obvious right now PS4 > X1 > WiiU last gen prooved perceptions and sales can change drastically.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous to even guess at this point. At any time in the next generation any company can make a big change or release a new product that will change everything. It's just too early to tell.

The 360 released first and was better than the PS3 early on. It also didn't have all the complications that the One has. I see MS advertising the One like crazy so I don't see it doing poorly, but I also don't see it doing better than the 360. Maybe 60M.
