Dead Rising 3 remains in the same story arc as the past entries of Dead Rising. The new main character’s name is Nick Ramos, and as rumored last year, he is a mechanic. The game is all about scavenging. The zombies are more aware, and the game takes place within a huge open world, larger than the first two Dead Rising settings combined.

The story takes place 10 years after Dead Rising 2 in the city of Los Perdidos, a Capcom press release revealed. The zombie outbreak has spread nationwide, and Nick must team up with his fellow survivors and flee the city before the military destroys the city entirely.

Past Dead Rising games had somewhat of a comedic approach to them, but Dead Rising 3 has more of a focus on an intense survival experience. There’s still a balance of just ridiculous fun, as well as a realistic survival experience that should please core fans, according to Capcom. Driving will also play a more pivotal role in Dead Rising 3  and, as seen from the gameplay footage, has mechanics similar to the recently released State of Decay where zombies attack and attach onto the car until they are removed forcefully by the player.

The game offers hundreds of combinations for weapons using the crafting system in the game, just as you could in Dead Rising 1 and 2. Aside from the single player experience, the game will also feature a full co-op experience. Finally, SmartGlass will also be integrated into Dead Rising 3 as you saw with the player calling in artillery in the last portion of the demo.

I was genuinely pretty surprised by the trailer. If you had shown it to me and said "guess which series this is from" it'd maybe have taken me 10 or more guesses to arrive at Dead Rising.

Colour replaced with muted palette. No lawnmowers with razor blades attached or electrified wheelchairs. Had a very gritty edge to it.

It looked a fine game, no doubt at all about that, but it didn't look like much of a Dead Rising game, which is a mighty shame. DR2 was a big surprise for me. My flatmate rented it on a whim and didn't like it; but I really enjoyed it because it was just pure, silly, light-hearted fun. Perhaps there's a DR2 hidden underneath all the layers of "dark & gritty" which this trailer showed.

That's what I'm hoping for. Capcom Vancouver (Former Blue Castle Games) has stated several times that they're aiming for a grittier experience, but the fun elements are present there; is up to the player to use them. Dead Rising has been a game that can make fun of itself while still being an enjoyable experience, that's what makes they joy more fun altogether. I'm just hoping that this "pleasing Call of Duty crowd" thing they're doing don't destroy the roots of the core elements. The trailer showed more zombies in screen than ever, combo elements by the go and no loading times. That's great. But outside that, there was nothing you would say..."Dead Rising!". They didn't even showed the UI (Which is a classic) or the timer (which is a classic too and it would be a shame that they erased this element).

Uhhh can't say I'm ecstatic about trying to aim for the "CoD player"

Yeah. I read that a while ago. We all know what happened to RE6 and its "aim for the cod players".

Inside Kinect

If you're an old school Xbox fan you most likely remember the incredible break-out success of the original Dead Rising for the Xbox 360. The franchise has went on to sell millions of copies and even spawned several sequels on the Wii and PS3. With Dead Rising 3 Capcom is returning to their roots and making it Xbox One exclusive. Everything you know and love has been brought over with the addition of some next-gen enabled graphics and features.

For those who care about the story Dead Rising 3 is roughly 10 years after Dead Rising 2 in a city called Los Perdidos, a fictional city based in California that consists of four districts. Los Perdidos is in a state of ruin and under martial law following a zombie outbreak. With no way to leave, the new protagonist Rick, sets out to fix a plane so that he and other survivors can escape before a bomb takes out the city.

The scale of Dead Rising 3 has been significantly upgraded over previous entries in the series. Every store and building is explorable. With the city itself being larger than all the previous games combined. The scale is even more impressive when you take in to account the game has zero load times and 3x times the zombies as the original with much more variety to boot. You can also expect over 100 weapon combinations and over 50 outfits.

Dead Rising 3 also makes substantial use of Smart Glass. Using your tablet or smartphone you'll be able to call air strikes, check your mission list and look up locations such as gun stores or safe points and even add in-game waypoints to help you if you get lost.

Kinect Integration

The Kinect features are unobtrusive and seem to add an extra layer of immersion to the experience. If you want to throw a zombie off just flick your controller and watch him go sailing. There will also be voice related features where you can taunt zombies to follow you by using your voice. You'll also be able to direct survivors to safety. The voice recognition is a double edged sword however. The game listens for any noise in your environment so if you're trying to sneak past a horde of zombies and your phone rings? You're toast.

Check out this exclusive 25 minute gameplay footage of Dead Rising 3 running on an Xbox One:

The game looks incredible despite some screen-tearing and framerate issues which we've been assured will be ironed out before release.

Rumour: Dead Rising characters to return for Dead Rising 3?

Some familiar faces may be making their way to California

Dead Rising 3 may be set in a new location and star a whole new protagonist, but two characters from previous titles in the series may be turning up in Los Perdidos after all. Possible spoilers ahead if you want to go in fresh...

Spotted by eagle-eyed NeoGAF forum user Zaverious, the website Siliconera is claiming that the characters of Isabella Keyes from Dead Rising 1 and Chuck Greene from Dead Rising 2 will feature in the new game.

Isabela was the younger sister of the main antagonist in the original Dead Rising who wound up joining Frank West by the end of the game - canonically, she survived the events of Willamette and was said to be working on a cure for the zombie virus. She didn't officially appear in Dead Rising 2 except in the strictly non-canon Off the Record spin-off, where it was revealed she was now working for the shady Phenotrans company responsible for anti-zombie drug Zombrex.

Greene was, of course, the motorcycle riding protagonist of Dead Rising 2 who was determined to save his daughter Katey from the zombie plague. No word on if she too is returning, but assuming Greene has still been keeping on top of her daily Zombrex requirement she'll be about 17 by the time of the events of Dead Rising 3.

There's no word on exactly how either of the characters will fit into the story of Dead Rising 3 - whether as helpful friends or decidedly unhelpful psychopaths - but Siliconera's source states that the story isn't about them. However, they also note another new character named Diego - one of Nick's closest friends - has some baggage "due to something from Dead Rising 1".

In the video posted below, Dead Rising 3 executive producer Josh Bridge explains the premise of the game, and give you a look at its star bashing zombies with a wrench. But that’s not all: the game contains a weapon called a sledgesaw which as you can probably discern for yourself is a sledgehammer-skillsaw combo. Bridge also touches upon Kinect and SmartGlass integration. Dead Rising 3 is an Xbox One exclusive from Capcom and is slated for release this year. Thanks, Evil Avatar.
