Forums - Microsoft - Polygon: Xbox One policy "gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly"

How exactly are their policies anti-middle class? If that was the case, then so were Sony's policies back at the beginning of this gen, because only those with a good amount of disposable income could afford a PS3 at launch. Xbone is going to be no more expensive than $500 at launch.

And I love the line accusing M$ of ignoring "underprivileged gamers"... right, just like how Apple ignores "underprivileged cell phone users" with their policies, and yet millions of middle class folks still shell out $$$ for the iPhone year after year.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Apple doesn't target underprivileged cell phone users, you can get an iPhone for $99 and $20 a month for the next two years, all in all depending on your service it's less than $100 a month for unlimited everything + a top quality phone.

Gamers for a big part have always been students or people around that age, MS is disoriented about what their target audience is me thinks.

Yeah a big part of their target audience is kids, teenagers, and college students. The majority of those will not have a problem with the online check thing, especially considering the next generation of kids are growing up in an always online environment and will not think twice about something like this.

I'm a college student, and don't have much money, yet I am perfectly OK with it.

On a side note I don't think they will require a 24 hour checkup on games that you bought digitally. The only reason for the 24 hour check is to keep people from buying games, installing them, going offline forever, and selling them right away to get most of their money back despite still being able to play them.

You have to be online for the indie games on the 360 though. I don't see them letting you off the 24 hour check just because you go digital.

Why not? I think at this point it could go either way withe a 24 hour check on digital games, but personally think that digital games will not need that.

Are indie games seriously like that on the 360? That doesn't sound right to me (I've never bought one though so I don't know).

i wonder what will happen in 10-15 years when microsoft end support for the Xbone, will everyone who invested in it just sit with a glorified cable box then unable to play anything.

As it stands now 360 is gonna be the only MS console i will ever have owned.

I'm not sure why they would require it for digital games, except if they make sure everyone is connecting to their servers regularly (even digital only gamers) then they have a better shot against piracy. And as it is on the indie games, I don't know why they wouldn't do it again.

I only found out they did this last week, which I guess shows that the always online stuff can slip under the radar pretty easily.

I was really curious as to why Indie games required you to be online on the 360. What I found was that they require you to be online because Indie games aren't certified thus they need to be checked I guess. Everything else is certified and doesn't require online except when you are downloading the title. That part I don't see changing in the future.

I couldn't find anything about certification, do you have a link? I did see that any game from the Marketplace needs a constant internet connection if you are playing it on a console that isn't the one you bought it from. I guess this means the 1 hour checks are actually an improvement (unless they keep this rule for the digital titles).

I found it in a forum and figured it must be true since that's the only logical reason why they would require online for that but not require it for other arcade games.

As to the second part, that is only partially true. If you transfer the license for those games you can play them offline.

Good.
People need to catch on if they don't want to treated like crap. MS will be forced to change this after release.
