Forums - Microsoft - leaving MS consoles after ten+ years

You are doing the right thing. Be smart and don't support this crap. Gamers are better than this.

Yup, there is no reason to think DRM will happen for ps4 at this given time. We haven't heard persistant rumors like we did about MS. All the reports contradict the people suggesting it will. Sony and Gamestop already confirmed used games along with Yoshida confirming no internet required to use the system. There is no practical way to implement it or enforce it. The "up to the publishers to require online registration" (which is the quote people like to focus on who suggests these claims) really just sounds like online passes. Now, can Ps4 still have DRM? Absolutely, but I will continue to believe its not the case untill something actually supports that it is the case.

why then are some people in this thread saying with certainty that sony are doing this also?

Sony does not require DRM: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/It-Official-PS4-Feature-Used-Game-DRM-Like-Xbox-One-56264.html

OP, when people said MS came into gaming because of multimedia it should've answered your question long ago. The Xbox One would've come regardless of the time, they just have to shut the gamers up to do it.

I have no issue with them being the gateway to everything, just the requirements placed on it

I really do hope they change some of the "ideas" they have done this before and recently the office 2013 licensing change so it could be moved from one computer to another, and though its only a symbolic fix the "return" of the start button to the guy (still not really what people were after)

and they changed the requirement last genii that games will not require HDs … not really a plus, but just a note that they can change… i just really hope they do before launch would be better, but i don't see that happening

Only 8 years to me (was never fond of the original Xbox), but I will be parting ways as well. I'll have more than enough gaming with my 360, Wii, PC, and soon to be Wii U, not to mention all my retro games. Might even get a PS4 if Sony doesn't follow the same treacherous DRM path with their console.

Your only option then will be Wii U

PC and Steam are even stricter than the Xbox One.
PS4 is implementing the exact same thing besides the 24 hour online check.

So basically its retro consoles or Wii U for anyone who feels this way

PC's is not just steam, there are options availible for quality game with no DRM. GOG is a shining light. Meanwhile the biggest factor to why Steam is more appealing than Xbox One is that it is a software base service not tied down to bespoke hardware, I trust valve and after the 'you're really backward' fiasco, I cannot say I trust MS to do the same thing.

Also $8 for Fallout3 AND New Vegas, $4 for Alan Wake franchise!

PS4... yea, I am waiting for the other bloody shoe to drop, seriously I pray that I am wrong and would jump for joy if I AM wrong but the hope is being eaten alive by a pack of vicious wolves.

I will look at the WiiU when it actually get some games.

all these strict rules from microsoft will result in the collapse in the video game industry..i think how nintendo was stubborn in going to cd's caused part of their downfall..microsoft stubborn in being strict on software ownership will cause their downfall...its just in this depression we are in no one will want to give up the little they have left

microsoft is taking a huge risk..a sorely miscalculated one..just look at what happened when they(GOVERNMENT) RECENTLY TRIED TO REGULATE THE INTERNET..the people rebelled..

i always buy both Playstations and Xbox's each gen. i love the PS2, PS3 and Xbox1 (360.. no) but i fully intended to buy PS4 and XboxO but tbh there isn't a chance now. the XO is not what i want. I'm 22 and move around a lot. i don't alway have internet so if i buy a game i expect to play it not think oh well il wait a few weeks/months till MS let me. tbh I'm guessing with al these restrictions and crap they expect gamers to put up with I'm sure they will launch the XO for about £99. even then i would feel ripped off.

i like the fact that you put value on private ownership on ones property...its part of our rights as Americans

I owned both Xbox and the 360 (and loved both of them!) but I really don't like what MS is doing and I don't intend to purchase the Xbox One until it becomes much cheaper and that is only to play Halo. I hate the online once a day thing, their used game policy, and they will probably continue to charge for Xbox Live. Also another downside is that the console is less powerful and according to the experts here, the graphics difference for all games will be noticeable between the Xbox One and PS4 and I don't want to own inferior versions of the same product. So for now, I'm mostly favouring the PS4, but if Sony has similar policies as Microsoft then I will have to get a WiiU and stay with my 360 for a few more years.
