PS4 is implementing the exact same thing besides the 24 hour online check.

I hadn't heard this. Any sources?

If they are doing installs on their console, which they are, they have to implement DRM. there is no other way it can work.

Except for the 24 hour check in, they are using this as DRM and bypassing most of the cloud stuff Ms is going to offer. http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/03/sony-patents-tech-to-tie-discs-to-user-ids/

So essentially they are going to give gamers the "feeling" like they own the game by using it as DRM, even if the game lives on the hard drive, cloud...etc. Kind of smart trickery to keep old school gamers that like tangible things happy, but it would piss the hell out of gamers like me who don't want to keep disks around or swap them every time I want to play a new game.

I'm curioud how this works when it comes to cloud streaming to PSVita. Like do I have to have my disk in PS4 at all times and PS4 on to play the game on PSVita? If so, thats stupid...

Yeah its been obvious that Sony will be using the watermark disc patent for their DRM since MS announced DRM for the X1.

Basically Sony doesnt want to alienate people without online but still want to appease 3rd parties. So 3rd parties will have the option of the watearked discs to block used games.  This is beyond obvious and anyone who doesnt see that is kidding themselves.

Sucks for lots of gamers but both X1 and PS4 will have heavy DRM.

Wait, have those patents been confirmed to be in place for the PS4?

No but 3rd parties are demanding DRM and Sony is not going to tell them no.  Sony has also stated PS4 will not require online. The watermarked discs are the onlly way to make DRM work without internet. Sony didnt file that patent just for the fun of it.

I personally don't mind it to be honest. Its there and I understand why its necessary for digital purchases.

Bottom line is that it doesn't get between me and the game enjoyment.

Sony haven't said, themselves, that it will, but checking Disolitude's link shows they patented the tech. As I've said, though, we should probably wait for clarification on it. As for the X-One, seems MS has made it clear what they're doing and it may or may not have a negative impact. No doubt some are probably overreacting a bit on it.

E3 couldn't get here soon enough, though.

Ah ok, I'm definitely waiting for more clarification on it.

I cannot wait for the Xbox one to come out and everyone buys it, loves it, so we do not have to hear people constantly complain anymore
The amount of bitching on these forums is an eyesore.

It's not just this forum, but the whole internet. People in the real world are walking away too. No body wants this thing, Just saying.

According to who? You?

Most people i know are acutally excited for it, the used game policy is bs, but PC gamers have been dealing with that for years, console gamers can too.

Most people are just uneducated on the matter. People will believe all the negativity that is spun and not want to be ridiculed by their friends for owning something that is talked bad about.

Today I talked to a friend I haven't talked to in a long time. I asked him what he thought about the new Xbox. He said that everyone said that it sucked and he doesn't know if he's going to get it. I told him about the TV features and the fantasy draft snap view. He was excited. He loves football. Told him how it was going to be DRMed and told him PS4 games have the option of doing it if the developer chooses. The TV integration still stuck and he's interested. People have only been telling him about the bad things they heard about the console and nothing about what it actually can do.

People are blinded from seeing a console as anything different than only gaming. Watching Netflix use to be joked about too when it first arrived on consoles. That soon became an easy pill to swallow. The Xbox One may seem like a bigger pill to swallow, but people will adjust to it and notice it's an easier transition than they think. If anything, the Xbox One is helping to save the videogaming industry from the death grip of Google and to a smaller degree Apple, who are trying to invade the living room with their own set-top boxes. MS is trying to put walls up to slow them down from coming in, while giving the videogame consoles time to evolve in order to catch up to times to push those two giants out the door and keep it closed.

Everyone i know hates it. Only 3 people of these 15 or so where ps3 only this gen, everyone is going PS4. That’s why there are consoles gamers. Less shit to deal with, now that’s out the window  why not just go pc and have the advantage of steams deep discounts? Get ready for the storm its coming.

Just because everyone you know hates it doesn't everyone else does. The Xbox one will do well, like it or not.

And yes I do game on the PC, and i do have a steam account. Steam will never be on par with Xbox coming from someone who has been using both for years.

That's why aim geting a PS4

Judging by your posts I can't tell if you want this disk DRM implemented or not...
