^ This exactly.  I do feel bad for the people this truly effects but they also arent the ones that are complaining (atm at least).

Hoe do u know there not complaining? If they dont have internet then they cant get on the internet to complain

That is my entire point.  The people we see complaining are not effected by this( I stated before i expect lower than 5% of forum users to be effected).

However i expect some people to complain once it gets released.  I think the biggest fault that MSFT has on this is that how many people are they effecting exactly?  That could be an issue.  idk yet.  This thread has been taken out of context by a few saying that Im comparing but Im not.  And Im certianly not defending MSFT as i think it is a risky move excluding people from getting the console.

Around 1/3 of all people in the US don't have broadband. At all. They don't even reach the required 1.5Mbps.

And that is in my opinion the biggest issue with what they are doing.  Not the 1 time 24 hour thing.

311 million people live in the united states as of 2011.  Which means by what you are saying that excludes 100m.  So 200m people are available in the United States unless internet increases over the years.

Yeah. I don't understand why they have to set this artificial barrier. If the XBone really locks you if you don't reach that speed, a LOT of people will get angry at release date...

Well, idk if they require a 1.5 speed for the check in.  I think that is for the multiplayer functions etc.  But idk about all that stuff.  I just am not a big fan of a large userbase being excluded.

I dont think it wil be a lot of people to get angry but i think there will be complaints about it for sure.  I think most people who buy it early will be people who have high speed internet.  I think it is the people later on that might complain.

I live in Bangladesh which is a 3rd world country. Internet connect is very unstable here. I use 512 kbps line (I know its extremely slow). Yet I have ps3 super slim (Previously I had ps3 slim) and have played 60 + games among which 40+ are new. The ps3 / xbox 360 community is not big as India here but we still have a decent gaming community. Sometimes internet line is disconnected for 3-4 days. Plus our government closes youtube or some other sites without reason. So for me its not possible to connect internet regularly. I really hope ps4 wont need constant internet connect. If sony also used DRM then I will go back to pc gaming or might get a wii u.

ps: I still play my old ps2 games. What will happen after 7-8 years later when server of xbox one / ps4 will be terminated. My game collection will be meaningless. Some of my friends still plays games in their old N64. This is the reason game companies should not force internet connect at least for single player.

Sony already confirmed no internet connection required and used games are able to be played

Hm, that depends on how many fans MS has in rural areas and the West Coast in general XD

I'm very familiar with rural areas seeing as I live in one of the most rural states lol

I don't always game at my own place, not everywhere I go has an internet connection, or even that good of phone reception. But still have electricity and a decent tv.
Thankfully I can bring my system and use it to play any game that doesn't require online for multiplayer, That wouldn't be an option with that system. I can bring my pc and play steam games in offline mode. With the X1 I'd be SOL

I have friends internet connection, some with smart phones others not even that, but they do have gaming systems and a few games. This console isn't for them.

Few people will be strongly effected by this and you won't be able to hear from many of them online since many of them have little to no access. Just because those of us here would be less effected doesn't mean we can't sympathize and speak out for those who will be.

First of all, it is painful. I once had my ps3 on for two days straight DLig stuff. Secondly, they arent mandatory. They are only mandatory if you go online... which not everyone cares to do, wants to do, or can do. Last, no, living under the poverty line is not the only reason.

Obviously you have to go online for updates for the games that need it lol. The point is if you want to play the top MP titles out there, requires updates that take up far more time then a simple check up... which the X1 does when it's not even on since updates take place in standby mode. You have to not have interent period for the remainder of the 24 hrs when you're not even playing games.

I'm not sure as to what you are saying because as far as I know no game on the ps3 or the ps3 itself needs an update... I never said anything about MP games as obviously the people with no internet wont be playing those

Depending on how long you would be at your friends you could have it verify before you disconnect and bring it over there. I do see it being a hassle for people with bad interenet and no cell service

I'm talking about the X1, not the PS3. The point is the X1 is always connected to the internet downloading updates and patches even when you turn it off since it's in standby mode. For this not to work, you either don't have internet, it's not working at the moment, or for some strange reason you unplug your console evertime you're not playing. I already stated my support for people without internet and the 1.5mbs speed, but everyone seems to be pretty blunt about their internet speed.

Oh if it makes you feel better I was at a hotel downloading FF13-2 demo and Lightinings DLC on the PS3, it took all damn day!! Now if that was my X1 then it would still easily do it's 24 routeen check, since it takes one of the lowest speeds in the country to do so.

Then as My OP said, don't like it, don't buy it :)  It really is that simple.  I get you man, some people don't have internet period.  All im saying is MOST with a few exceptions that are complaining do.

Correct!

The strange thing however is that you don't seem to take your own observation seriously, and simply ask yourself:

"Wait a minute, most people have somewhat reliable internet most of the time - why do even these people hate the idea nevertheless?"

Instead, you somehow seem to believe these people are simply too dumb to realize that they are already using the internet.

This is what people over here call a "elektronische Fussfessel". From the user perspective, It's a black box device that needs to be connected to internet at least once every 24h, upon which the black box will send collected information it has gathered about the owner's behaviour to an internet server.

Many of those who are having one don't like them, and the reason is not that they have unreliable internet.
