You know, if Sony comes up with some DRM Bullshit, it doesn't make Microsoft look beeter in any way. It just makes Sony look worse. Sim City on PC has even worse DRM than Xbox One. But still, that doesn't make the Xbox One better. Just because there is something that is just as bad or worse doesn't mean it's ok all of a sudden.

No matter who does it, it sucks big time. And I don't care who started it. So you know what? Cheers to Nintendo until sony denies or confirms anything. No crappy DRM bullshit on Wii U. Still no Xbox One for me.

Well said.

I don't understand this brand loyalty people have to companies that screw them over.

Microsoft and Sony should be begging us for our hard earned money, not have people defending them through some sense of loyalty to a brand.

Two people that get it.  Stand up for yourselves people; do what YOU want.  Stop talking like you are on the board of directors for any of these 3 companies.

are u not reading or something...i just said i can play my games without going online and u keep bringing up online passes on third party drm when they cant if i dont go online. point is

1. I can play my games on ps4 without ever going online

2. I can allow my friends to borrow and play those games or rent them without going online.

You cant do any of those on xbox. stop bringing up online passes and all that bs because u know that the biggest problem with all this is the fact that they wont let you play your games on xbox without going online which is a load of bullshit.

Um yes they can. When you play an online match of CoD, do you think you are connecting to Sony servers? No. You are connected to the Activision servers. When you insert a disk on the PS4, that disk belongs to the third party company.

Do you think EA online passes connected you to the Sony servers? No, you connect to the EA servers. Sony can't stop third parties from doing it, simple as that.

You are the one that aren't reading what I'm saying.

no question there @bold
but can you wrap your head around the idea that there are other ways to grab our money? Sony and Nintendo, as platform holders, can negotiate with publishers some other way to bring more cash in their platform other than intrusive DRM...
you can go check my post history, and see that i am pro DRM, because i work in a SW house and know creating SW is hard work, but DRM must be well implemented and work without the consumer ever notice he is there, unless they make something illegal (not illegal to be off-line, to lend a game or sell your disc game(by selling it you must revoke the right to play that game and the new owner must get a new user right permit to use that SW). And the lack of Laws in this matter is disturbing BTW...

Very glad you got the point of the thread. Many did not and just came in defense of Sony or argued about the patent itself instead :)

Now, we can still talk about DRM of course!

Regarding your point, I am not disgreeing at all. I think it would be hard to argue that no-DRM is better than DRM for the end user :)

My reality is that, on a personal stand point, it does not bother me that much; and at the same time I really find the fact that you need to connect to the internet once per 24 hours really not as drastic as some seem to believe. I have a lot of game on Steam and it is way more drastic than that... Same for downloadable games on console... I actually see this as an advantage (because you install the game and forget the disc)

Now, if the console makers let us sell back our game online on in-store (and it looks like we will be able to do so), then the only draw drawback is to be able to lend a game disc to a friend... But again, you cannot do that with digital games or most of the PC games today.

i don't know about all platforms... but in PS3... we can... when i buy a game in the PSN store, i can download and install in 2 PS3 systems (mine, obviously, and in a friend PS3 for example) as soon as my friend say he is done with the game i can go to my account settings and disable his system from my account *... he can even play the game (while active)in his profile and earn trophies**... this is DRM and still you can control your account and your content.
MS could do this "tie the disc game with your account" and you must be on-line only in the activation of the disc, after that, you could go off-line for days and months until next new game, witch would be less intrusive, but would require extra stuff in the BD drive and result in less security for the platform (my guess, no actual proof).

*(i believe steam has a similar system, PCs (HW) "tied" to one account, but the disable has to be done on-site, while on SEN is done remotely IIRC)

**(even play with me MP, witch is not possible with a lend disc)

BTW, with Microsoft's system, has anyone thought of the loophole where you can have one "shared" account between many people. You use THAT account to share single player games, as long as you don't play simultaneously. Granted, you would all have to know and/or trust eachother...

You could each have a separate, personal account to play online games where you have to be on simultaneously.

You don't need an Internet connection... unless a 3rd party company requires it.
You can sell/buy/play used games... if a 3rd party company allows it.

When Sony actually comes out like MS did and gives some actual concrete stuff on how this works, something deeper than "well hey its up to 3rd parties" then you can talk about head in the sand little buddy.

Hey unless I am dated on some of this. In which case by all means, enlighten.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/It-Official-PS4-Feature-Used-Game-DRM-Like-Xbox-One-56264.html

This is like the 10th time I have seen a Sony enthusiast link this article to lets take a look at it.

1.) The PlayStation 4 can play games offline without having to be online. This was clarified the day of the PS4's reveal back on February 20th.

That's nice that you can play games online. Of course.. you can on the Xbone as well. If you click the link in the article for "play games offline", you see a dude saying PS4 is not a permanent connection device. Neither is the Xbone.

2.) Sony will not have any mandatory DRM for used games. You can buy, play, trade used games on the PlayStation 4 just as usual. No additional registration fees, pay-walls or internet registration required.

You guys are harping on the "Sony will not have any DRM" part of this comment but are leaving out there "mandatory" part. That is the most crucial part. If publishers are putting DRM on the Xbone, why would they not do it on the PS4? Look at the extremes publishers went to this gen to combat used games. Preorder incentives became ridiculous. When that was done, online passes came about. When that became common use, the online pass even seeped into games that had no online. EA recently got rid of the online pass. Do you think they did in out of the kindness of their heart, or because they have something better (for them) coming down the pipeline?

And this is just another example of no clarity or real answers being taken and interpreted as an actual answer. If you click the link for "buy, play, trade used games on PS4" in the article, you see all the Sony exec really says is "PS4 can play used games".
The Xbone can play used games as well.

3.) If you so choose, you can play games from disc, download them from the digital store or remote load them. Sony doesn't mandate any method over the other for multi-format titles.

Sony doesn't mandate it, but it's still up to 3rd party publishers. If EA wants to require you to install and register Battlefield 4, that's how it's going to be. Some people white knighting for Sony also claim this is "no different than PS3". It's not the same as PS3.

4.) Just for extra clarification the PlayStation 4 does not and will not require a constant always-on internet connection.

Xbone does not require an always-on connection either.

That article does nothing but stengthen my point. We don't really know a thing until Sony comes clean. Not going to bother talking about this again until after E3, assuming Sony provides some real answers there.

You're looking for reasons, and you need to start reading once more. LOL The Xbox does require always being connected but being on at least once every 24 hours for authentication, updates and security reasons. The PS4 needs none of that until you CHOOSE to go online. The Xbox One demands an online connection to be used. The PS4 does not....it was made for the guy without internet as well as the old school gamer who doesn't care about online. Two different consoles, two different methods, but of course I am sure tyou selectively chose not to read that part.
