I think the vague responses and "answering without really answering" tactics we have seen by Sony would suggest that yes, what you see in terms of used games DRM on Xbone, you'll see on PS4 as well.

The only difference would be Gamestop might not have to jack into Sony servers just to buy a game off a customer like they would on Xbone. But publishers can take care of that easily enough with a serial number included in every game. Or, the disc based solution from this thread, which doesn't even require Internet.

The vague responses of flat out denying internet requirement and Ps4 being able to play used games (Also confirmed by gamestop).... okay, you just put your head in the sand some more buddy

You don't need an Internet connection... unless a 3rd party company requires it.
You can sell/buy/play used games... if a 3rd party company allows it.

When Sony actually comes out like MS did and gives some actual concrete stuff on how this works, something deeper than "well hey its up to 3rd parties" then you can talk about head in the sand little buddy.

Hey unless I am dated on some of this. In which case by all means, enlighten.

You can on the PS4 if 3rd party allows it

You can't because 1st party said so on Xbox One

It's not obligatory on the Xbone either. The Xbone is just designed to allow DRM, the publisher can enable this features if they desire, but it's not required.

"Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.  Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

Actually it looks as though it was designed to not allow it. Now they are exploring the possibilities of allowing you to do so. Just not able to let you at launch. So again it's not up to Publisher, it's console wide... but they may change that

From the first quotes I used it sounds like this features will be available for 3rd parties to use, but won't be 100% obligatory. Publishers just have the tools, which that alone will make it easier than the PS4.

You can't on the Xbox One at all. The DRM is console wide, for every game, as of right now. But they are currently exploring for a solution. 3 monthes from now it may change

Not sure why Xbox fans have to keep bringing Sony into this. Just hoping they aren't the only ones with DRM, I suppose. Of course, if people actually paid attention to Sony after the reveal, they would know the truth already. Sony is not putting DRM into their console. You can play the PS4 completely offline. Oldschool. Yoshida also already said that used games were allowed. If 3rd parties want to do DRM, they will have to make their own system, on their end, to do so. Of course, that would only apply to online gameplay, since the PS4 can be played OFFLINE.

So, why did Sony patent that tech? Honestly, I think they did it to back MS into a corner. I think Sony heard MS was looking to lockdown their console, so they went and patented one of the few ways, if not the only way, to do offline DRM. This would force MS to either pay them to do offline DRM or go with online DRM. Of course, Sony knows that this extremely limits the audience that MS can sell to. Just my theory, anyway.

Also, one has to look no further than Yoshida trolling people about DRM (Death Ray Manta) coming to Vita to see that Sony has no plans to go down the DRM route.

That right there^^^^

PS4 has no console wide DRM system. Xbox One does. Not really that hard to understand

*** Yes things can change, for both the PS4 and Xbox One. But as of now, that's they way it is according to the console makers.

I never buy anything used so Sony can go right ahead

is all right there

if the console does not need an internet connection u can bypass all the drm bs simply by not going online. This is a knight in shining armor compared to what MS is doing...

PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all.

I thought we were all clear on that. We all know there's no DRM, but that won't stop 3rd parties for doing it.

A "white knight" would be the one that stops 3rd parties from doing DRM. Simple put, if you want your game on our console, don't put DRM. That would be a white knight, Sony isn't.

what drm can they do? you cant go online without buying new? ok ill play single player all day....on xbone...u literally cant...

The same way they are doing online passes. The moment you insert the game you connect to the 3rd party publishers severs. Again, like I mentioned many times already: so far, the only difference is that it will be easier for 3rd parties to put DRM on the Xbone, while on the PS4 it will be "harder".

are u not reading or something...i just said i can play my games without going online and u keep bringing up online passes on third party drm when they cant if i dont go online. point is

1. I can play my games on ps4 without ever going online

2. I can allow my friends to borrow and play those games or rent them without going online.

You cant do any of those on xbox. stop bringing up online passes and all that bs because u know that the biggest problem with all this is the fact that they wont let you play your games on xbox without going online which is a load of bullshit.
