Forums - Sony - Sony could possibly stop you from playing used games

So, a lot of people on these forums are talking a lot about Microsoft and their evil intentions...

Now, if we look at this : http://kotaku.com/5972787/sony-patent-could-stop-you-from-playing-used-games-possibly-on-the-next-playstation

As I already said before, I think Sony is playing the game very well right now by just "not giving" any details about their DRM/Used Game plans but as they need to please the publishers in general, they are going to implement it like Microsoft (even for their own published games I believe).

Not the first time they are looking for that kind of this : Sony has researched new tech for suppressing second-hand game sales [NeoGAF]

I see a lot of Sony loyalists talking about "Sony's passion" for gaming and blah blah blah... "Sony" not being like all companies and seeming to care for gamers and not for their investors, etc...

But what about this then; Microsoft's fault?

Whats wrong with we all know sony is great and can do no wrong so boooo

This could also explain why they dont need a Internet connection on the ps4

The difference is that since the hoopla on MS started, Sony has specifically come out and stated officially that they are not requiring any form of internet connection and that in itself removes the entire DRM argument.

EDIT: read linked patent (why not put critical info in OP... kinda what its for). No internet required due to usage of RFID tags. However, I still don't think Sony is doing anything after the fallout MS has undergone.

Do you not realise that gamers want both Microsoft and Sony to NOT implement these things?

It's a backwards step in gaming,a  hindrance and it breachers consumer rights. A lot of gamers have already said they won't buy or support either console if they go ahead and fully block used games and require an online connection.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have given clear answers so this thread really is pointless. The only reason Sony fanboys on other websites have been so vocal is because Microsoft have confirmed that some type of online DRM and used game blocking will be implemented. But neither company have divulged details. Sony have said things that puts them in a more positive light for gamers but a lot of things are still up in the air.

Can we not have a thread about this every 5 minutes.

Sony has explicitly stated that used game DRM will be left up to publishers. They've repeated this a few times already.

And I guarantee publishers are going to jump on it. This is Sony's way of deflecting blame. Well.. that's what it looks like so far. We'll have to see how publishers react once both consoles are released.

granted, but retailers like Gamestop have openly talked about MS system. They have not stated or even leaked/rumored anything for PS4.

While I think that Sony has always planned for a similar DRM (I've stated as such many times already), I do think they may have backtracked off of it completely due to the fallout MS has seen and the clear ability to differentiate themselves and their console in this manner.

Read that after. However read my last post. I still think its not going to happen now.

Well, we see a lot of people targeting Microsoft and assuming THEY are starting this and they are setting an exemple for other companies (like Sony) to do it.
This thread is all about this and to remind them that Sony is as "evil" as any other companies, money is their first priority :P

While I do not care in my case as I want to be able to first play without the disc and start all of my game without the need to insert the disc and also I'm always connected : I agree that no DRM is better.

I believe exactly the same.
