Forums - Nintendo - How well would Wii U be doing if one sku and games werent delayed?

There are rumors that Nintendo is going to discontinue the 8gb Wii U and drop the 32gb to $299, which is what alot of people think they should have done from the start. Also games like Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Aliens Colonial Marines, Metro Last Light were all delayed/cancelled. How would Wii U be doing if it had originally released with only the Deluxe sku at $299 and all those games had been released by now?

I think Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends might have been able to push sales a little, but nothing significant. I'd have thought the other games would have absolutely no effect in increasing sales when the same experiences are already able to be had on the much cheaper Wii.

I don't think the premium/basic division has had any major effect on sales.

Probably would have given a few more sales short-term, but no effect long-term.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I agree but its likely it wouldnt have so much negative press if it had a steady stream of releases for the past 5 months. I imagine it would be around 4.5-5 million units sold by now.

Ithe premium/basic division does have an affect tho. The premium bundle accounts for the majority of its sales and if it were $50 cheaper this entire time with a couple extra solid exclusives things would look alot better for it.

I think it'd be marginal to little impact.

The bottom line I think is I don't feel like general consumers are interested in another 360/PS3 style game machine, people are tired of those platforms as is.

The original Wii really was a miracle, such a different type of controller that caught on like wildfire before the casual market became obsessed with smartphones/tablets. It's just not a repeatable formula.

nothing so different. Maybe 4-5mil mark now.

People aren't going to buy a console at this price point for any of the titles listed. The only way a single game can move consoles is if it's an online shooter. I can't imagine people flocking to pick up WiiU because of Pikmin 4.

I think it would be doing better, especially if it had more titles for more people but who knows?!?

I would prefer an SKU with a standard 2.5' upgradable hard drive. It's not too late to introduce one.
