Forums - Sony - Why are people upset that polygon gave that last of us a 7

I gave up on reviews a decade ago when several games I loved got low scores. One of my favorite games of all time received a 4/10 from the magazine I read at the time.

Which one? :) This reminded me of a review in a Croatian games magazine (which doesn't exist anymore, but used to be huge), where a reviewer gave StarCraft (the original) a 60/100 score. The shitstorm this caused was absolutely huge, and was the first time I came across something like this happening. Magazine buyers wanted his head on a platter, and they kind of got it in the end.

Well Swedens biggest newspaper gave the last of us a 2/5...

I read the "review", the text is pretty pathetic and basically doesn't discuss the game itself at all, it's more a philosophical digression around morals, sameness and how he doesn't like Tretton's smile on the E3 stage. He also says that "you should not trust the other reviews", as if he knows some divine truth that others aren't privvy to. Is he Maelstrom?!

Good for a laugh anyways. Low scores are less harmful to consumers and the industry than all the perfect scores being thrown around in the 7th, at any rate. The review system has lost all meaning, so "The Last of Us" getting a high metacritic score doesn't really tell me anything as there are plenty of other games with high metascores that are damn near worthless to me. 76 perfect scores doesn't show any more than one 2/5 for me, it really doesn't.

I think I'm going to enjoy the game, it appears to be more about survival and tactics than mindless action and the animations, visuals, music and sound appear to be outstanding, the gameplay itself looks very good as well. Guess I'll find out in a couple of weeks.

there is another 7 from biogamer girl site, that review will make people laugh

This game!

Best JRPG battle system ever.  Review was by a now dufunct US magazine called "GamePro".

The Last of Us is not the game we deserve but it is the game we need.

The Last of Us is the Harvey Dent of gaming... or batman or something

YES! That's an awesome game! I too can't think of a game with a better battle system than that.

Was it the PS2 version, though? Because that version did receive much lower scores than the Dreamcast version. I played it on PS2 and it was still awesome although the framerate was bad.

Well, I don't mind.I would had given Uncharted 3 7.5 because the game itself didn't have anything bad expect boring shooting, but I didn't really like it at all.But just because I don't personaly like the game, I wouldn't give it bad score if I was reviewer. So 7.5 is pretty much "good game, but I didn't like it".Loved UC1-2 tho.

Holy shit yes! I love that game, still have it! The combat system is simply fantastic! The real-time/turn-based blend is perfect and watching your characters execute their attacks together is pure fun! If you time things right and chain things together, your skills actually matter somewhat as well, instead of the modern "press X to win" or, hell; "press X to Jason"...

... people don't know the meaning of the word opinion...

There's your answer, nothing more needs to be said, also i think it was a 7.5 and that's not a bad score the problem here is also the people: <9 = TRASH - this means that for them is like if the reviewer is calling the game trash, like if he's saying that it's worthless they don't even care for the review itself.

But it's not. An official review isn't supposed to just be an opinion. It's a objective review on the qualities of a product or service.

I don't think anyone really cares about the score itself, but rather believes there's motivation behind it (i.e. score low enough to stick and drive ad revenue).

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I am not sure...I played it on DC and PS2 (version I owned).  Either way I adore it and played it for hours on end and never had any glitches or framerate issue myself.  It is in that rare handful of games I'd give my highest "score".
