The purpose of the 3D was a marketing gimmick to make moving systems easier. Now that the results of that experiment have come in, no one has to pretend to care anymore!

I guess that's the best way to put it. But what are Nintendo supposed to do now? Just leave 3D to 2011?

Not at all. Some folks still care, after all. They should just put it in and not make a big fuss about it. Which, to their credit, they've largely been doing: I don't recall Nintendo trying to make 3D a big selling point for the system or games recently.

I'm so going to get a 3ds for this game...

All the spinning in this thread is making me dizzy. How can anyone possibly interpret this news negatively? "We want the game to look nice, so it will run at 60 FPS. The 3D effect will not be absolutely essential to playing the game, but it'll look damn good thanks to that framerate."

Seriously if he said the 3D effect would be needed to complete the game we'd have nothing in here but people complaining that they don't like playing in 3D, they don't WANT to, and that Aonuma is trying to force more gimmicks down their throats.

Instead we get people BEGGING for gimmicks to be forced down their throats. Geez. Guy can't catch a break.

Who interpreted this news as negative?

What exactly was "You are defeating the purpose of having the 3DS be 3D" supposed to mean? Or did I misunderstand you?

"Well, there are players who don't like 3D and always keep it switched off," he continued, "so there's nothing in the game that absolutely requires 3D, like puzzles that can't be solved without it."

You are defeating the purpose of having the 3DS be 3D.

Just like how 3D movies in the theaters are defeating their own purpose because they don't require 3D and are completely viewable in 2D?

The news was about the game running at 60FPS in 3D, which I never said was a bad thing. I just said that the "absence" of a purpose for 3D was dissapointing, to put it differently.

No. That's an option, just like how the 3DS has an option. (If I understand what you are saying correctly.) But when there is no incentive to see it in 3D; that's what I mean.

Confirming that puzzles don't require 3D is not the same as saying "3D offers no visual benefits." I'm certain the game's 3D offers a visual incentive for those who enjoy 3D, just judging by the trailers we've seen. I wouldn't worry about that.

Well, the game doesn't look like it is very taxing to even a system such as the 3ds.

hmm so past zelda games didn't run like that? i guess that didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of them! can't wait for this one
