Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Basic Being Recalled! Confirmed by GameStop - [ UPDATED ]

Oh wow, the WiiU just gets worse and worse. Any type of recall, be it dumping stock (check), or replacing it with better stock (check) is terrible for something that is not even a year old. The Dreamcast didn't even have this.

What Nintendo needs is to release a new awesome peripheral (like the Wii Fit board was) , pronto.

That ship has sailed. What they need to focus on first is the core. It's become pretty obvious that this console won't have mass market appeal like the Wii did.

Says who? they can still gather the mass appeal if they have a catchy peripheral + software. I will concede that the Wii U gamepad will NEVER have that appeal BY ITSELF (now matter how good software is developed for it). But if they can create a NEW thing like the balance board it will be 10 times cheaper than scratching Wii U and making a whole new console. And I'm sorry to tell you but the "core" of Nintendo fans is not large enough (as Wii U sales have shown) and expecting that small audience to carry the Wii U on its back and expand the installed-base to a *competitive position* is folly.

a) The casual market has gone. It is a one hit wonder and people won't buy anything new for a few years/until they bin and forget about their Wii's.

b) Compared to Kinect 2 and the tablet/phone market, they can't win with peripherals anymore. That time has gone.

c) They have a fit board.....which works with a wiiU. No one cares anymore. Been there, done that - next.

I'm guessing the 8 gig model is much less popular than the 32 gig model... at GameStop.

Possibly at other retailers like WalMart, the opposite is true.

Which means Nintendo may be recalling 8 gig models from GameStop... and moving them to WalMart.

They are not dumping the 8 gig models into a landfill or incinerating them. They are moving them.

Do bad it's apparently false. I was hoping for am e3 model change/ price drop. May still happen.

Wii Dildo w/Wii Sex?

These ideas at some point reach a point where people know you're just throwing plastic into a box.

It's not easy to come up with ideas with that kind of mass market appeal especially now that the casusal audience is spending all their money on phones/tablets.

put the 32 gig at 299 and 64 gig at 350?

I'd hope they'd be smart enough to actually offer a large HDD. This 32GB -> 64 GB upgrade is laughable for a console.

i dont know.... external hdd works with a lot of people...

some people think a first party expansion with their not so awesome price is laughable....

I don't see how. 32GB as the largest HDD offering in 2013 seems so crazy to me. I thought 20 and 60GB  were small in 2006....

It's flash memory, not an HDD, so the price per GB is much higher. You still have the option to buy a cheap external HDD/flash drive, so I don't see what's exactly the problem in having 32GBs on the console, specially considering the advantages flash memories have over HDDs.

yep. Nintendo is going to add 32GB of ram and resell them as deluxe.

Since this is happening one week after E3, I expect big news on new bundling options and quite possibly a price change for $299 for WiiU. (only one sku from now on) and various pricing depending on bundled game.

Hell, they may go crazy and drop it to $249 to $279 and have $299 the price point with a bundled game besides NL.

I also hope this corresponds to a set of free digital stuff from eShop for us early adopters.

Damn, that's a lot.

I'm not gonna lie, I got hype for a second. XD

Still, this is probably for the best considering most people probably got a Deluxe anyway. Might as well put the Basic models collecting dust to work.

Those basic model SKUs remind me of the original 20GB PS3 SKU. It was equally underpurchased and really only seemed to exist to offer consumers a cheaper SKU that still managed to be a poorer value.

Honestly, I think the only reason why anyone would buy the basic SKU is because they wanted a white console, not a black one.

Not surprising. Not a bad idea.

Was anyone surprised that they would do this? 8GB is not enough, at all.

Definitely will buy a 8gb version if they drop the price to 200 US dollars.

Not that, but Nintendo basically not caring about the Basic Model. As it seems.
