It is obviously the Wii, and you don't have to take into account just the number of consoles. Your "profit" section is also highly inaccurate, you can't call it a profit and then also call it revenue. Did Sony make any money selling the PS3 at a loss? No, they can't count as a revenue until they sold the console at cost or greater, same for Microsoft, so in the 7th generation, which company profited more from their console? We already know it was Nintendo.

Your post has a fallacy in bold above.  But I think you meant to say PROFIT, and not revenue.

If sony sold a PS3 for 600 dollars, they earned 600 dollars in revenue.  Now if the system cost them 900 to make, that would be their expenses.  Leaving them with a net LOSS of 300.  Assume the cost of the system was 500, that would leave them with a net PROFIT of 100.  Either way, revenue = 600.

That being said, I fully agree with you that the OP titles section 2 as "profit", yet almost exclusively talks about revenue.  From what I understand (never actually scrutinized the numbers myself) Nintendo won the profit crown by a landslide early on.  What might make it closer, however, is how much money Microsoft brings in from Xbox live (which believe me is an absurd amount).  Sony did not do too well last generation in terms of profit early on and mid cycle.  Now they are doing much better, just in time for PS4.  Hence the announcement by Sony they don't plan to lose [as much] on console sales this time around.  They can't afford to just in case the console takes too long to ramp up again, like ps3 did.

You are correct, I meant profit and typed revenue.

No, he is saying that the typical gamer chose the Wii early on, but then moved on to the PS3 or 360. Since 2007-2010 is a shorter period of time than 2011-2013, the victory gets handed to the HD consoles.

I wasn't considering the time frame, just the end result.

But yes Rol summarized me exactly.

lol..I hatecwhen he does that.

It's hard to believe that you agreed to that.

With the exception of your time periods part, that is what I said.

"...he is saying that the typical gamer chose the Wii early on, but then moved on to the PS3 or 360."

As for the time frames... I would actually put 2010 with 2011-2013 honestly.

From a business prospective:
Wii >>>>> 360 >>> PS3

From a gamer's prospective:
PS3 > 360 >>>>>>>> Wii

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

It was an interesting gen, that's for sure.

The way i see it;

Nintendo's Wii won the gen for the massive profit it brought the company
Microsoft's 360 won the battle for more marketshare than their last console
Sony's PS3 won the hearts of gamers with all the good games and exclusives. And may win in the sales category as well in a couple of years.

superchunk, hand over your Nintendo gamer badge. You don't deserve it anymore.

I clearly said Nintendo is my base. Just sucks that so many others don't want to play in my base. :/

No I agree that the Wii won. But that doesn't mean Nintendo won. They lost loyal customers, and devalued their home console by going for something cheap. There is no way the Wii increased the strength of the Nintendo brand because the Wii U isn't selling. I'm just saying it isn't 100% clear which strategy you would pick, that can only be seen in the long term.

Going by that logic, the PS2 decreased the strength of the PlayStation brand, because the PS3 wasn't selling and could only be brought back by incurring losses in the billion range.

Well with PlayStation the PS2 was still selling well when the PS3 came out so the brand was still going strong. It is simple to see the changes from one generation to the next with Nintendo, but Sony sells two consoles at once so the strength of their brand at any point is a combination.
