No, it would have been a dealbreaker if it was $20 and with actual DRM. Steam is like GOG: A sales platform. That's what makes Steam attractive: Only Publisher-side DRM (if at all - you can still play most Steam games without Steam, you just need to delete the steam_api.dll and launch it via "game".exe) and extremely good prices (either on deals or regular ones).

Get over it.

Well I'm over it but it seems you guys are still hung up over wild rumors, speculations.

Your statement is mostly false which confirms my statement of people just not knowing what DRM is. Steam isn't DRM free. You have to activate a game upon install which is Steams DRM. Without internet and activation you can't play. On top of that, 3rd parties may implement their own DRM, like EA with Crysis(which blows I agree).

Steam doesn't have an "always on" component to their DRM though which is what I think you're confusing DRM with...

Other questionable points you made...

Why the hell would you want to delete Steam to play a game? You've already registered it to an account and passed their DRM implementation.

Why would you want 3rd party publishers to handle DRM? Thats the wors part about Steam. If Microsoft is willing to do it for everyone on Xbox One much like Steam, this should benefit everyone involved.

No, I do not necessarily need to activate a game after the installation to be able to play it. Like I said - deleting steam_api.dll and then starting a game directly via "game".exe works most of the time.  I don't need Steam nor Internet for this. Try it. Take any of your Steam games, copy it to a PC without Steam, delete steam_api.dll (and if it exists for this game steamclient.dll) and launch the game. It will work.

For Steam, the initial installation and activation is the DRM... Without steam you can't install the game. After you install it you can delete steam (why??) and play offline all you want, even with Steam installed.

There is no reason to think next gen consoles won't have a similar DRM in place for single player/offline gaming.

Here is a cool article why having a DRM like Steam is better than no DRM at all (for PC gaming mind you, but still interesting read):

Sorry guys, it has DRM and you need internet to activate... I know this is a dealbraker for 99% of the people around here.

Link is dead, the game is 10 on steam. I would have picked it up because I love mortal Kombat, but I already own it for 360.

Sorry about that...fixed the link

I agree, Steam is a very good content manager with very nice features.

I'd like to know how fast this guy's internet is, though. I'd rather install 47 myself from disk than redownload them from Steam. 47*~4GB (most of my games are bigger though) = 188GB. With a download speed of  5,4 GB/h (1,5MB/s) this would take me 34,81 hours or 1,5 days of nonstop downloading + 47*~3-5 minutes to install them afterwards. Installing a game from disk usually takes around 10 minutes, which would amount to ~8 hours. Installing a game from disk also doesn't take many klicks.

1.) After insterting the disk - autorun.exe/setup.exe
2.) Next
3.) Yes
4.) Next
5.) Install
6.) Exit

All it does take is attention, but since I am on the PC anyways it's not exactly a big hassle to change disks all 10 minutes during browsing.

This was ported to PC? Is it the PC port of the original games? Or was Mortal Kombat Trilogy the only MK game on PC?

Two additional posts not talking about Mortal Kombat

@topic: Actually a nice offer. I never played MK before, but with MK7 being so close to the PC release I think I'll give them a shot.

I can confirm that these appear to be PC prots of these games. Its most likely the same Port that was ported to PS3 and X360, but it isn't Arcade perfect.  My Mame emulator is still king.

Online multiplayer is there too however this is using Games for Windows Live as 3rd party DRM for multiplayer. I havent tried playing online yet but since its GFWL, you can expect hoops...

I was wondering why on earth a Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection sale thread had some many replies...
