Forums - Gaming - 2 console gamers. Which one don't/didn't you buy and why?

3rd Gen: Only had NES... didnt know any othere console even existed at the time.
4th Gen: Got Genesis and SNES, didn't know TG16 even existed
5th Gen: Owned PSX/N64/Saturn
6th Gen: Owned Dreamcast/PS2/GC/XBOX
7th Gen: Owned PS3/Wii/360

I will likely get all the next consoles again as well, I'm sure they will all have awesome games that will make them stand out.

All Nintendo all the time - for those exclusive franchises

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

The Xbox360. I didn't care for the exclusives (still don't) and don't have any interest to pay for XBL Gold. Also, literally none of my friends ever owned an Xbox, so there's even less incentive.

Last gen I got a GC at launch, and a PS2 in 2003 for exclusives like GTA, Kingdom Hearts and Ratchet & Clank.  Prior to that I was strictly a Nintento-only gamer since the NES days, only playing SEGA consoles and the PS1 through friends and family. A few of my buddies had Xbox so I got to play Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Riddick and other exclusives that way.

This gen I was a "Wii60" gamer since 2007. Never got around to picking up a PS3 because I could enjoy all the AAA multiplatform games on 360, and I couldn't justify spending another $250-$300 on a console just for a couple of exclusives that I'm interested in.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Started with an xbox in 07 until 09 when I switched to PS3 in 2009 which is when I played the gems uncharted 2 and ratchet and clank: a crack in time biggest turnaround in my 12 year gaming life. PS1 was my fav. generation though. The sheer amount of epicly fun and hard platformers i played I will remember for the rest of my life. I can't say the same for this gen though even though I had my good times with Uncharted, Ratchet, resistance, infamous, heavy rain. I miss ps1 era.

Gen 3: My mother bought me a NES, didn't even know about anything else
Gen 4: My grandmother bought me a SNES, didn't care about the other gen 4 consoles
Gen 5: Got a N64 because of Zelda, Goldeneye and Mario, can't even remember if Saturn released in my country and a friend of mine had PS1 so i didn't see a need for it
Gen 6: Bought a Gamecube, considered PS2 for a long time but ended up not buying and XBOX didn't interest me.
Gen 7. First time i bought a non-Nintendo console. Got a Wii on launch, then PS3 a few years later. Considered a 360, but after so many hardware-issues any interest i had for the 360 died
Gen 8: Bought a WiiU at launch and a PS4 pre.ordered. XBOX isn't even considered

PS3 and Wii. Would have gotten a 360, i wanted to get one, but i was not going to deal with that RROD crap (and dont tell me no crap about extended warranty, a company that big should not be having those kinds of problems wiht there products) By the time they did get it right most of the games i were intereested in were realeased on PS3 anyway. Wii was different enought from the HDs that i thought it warranted a purchase.

PS3 and Wii. I never got a 360 for two reasons. Only a few of my friends used one. And the Red Ring. I ignored the system for that reason alone.

3rd Gen: NES and Sega Master System
4th Gen: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32x, Panasonic 3DO, Atari Jaguar and Turbo GrafX 16
5th Gen: N64, Sega Saturn, Neo Geo CD and PS1
6th Gen: GameCube, Dreamcast, PS2 and Xbox
7th Gen: Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360
8th Gen: WiiU only. Screw $ony and M$

There's might be some in there that I forgot.

Well does WiiU + PC somewhat count when I am not going to buy a Ps4 and Xb1? I see no point in buying those 2 systems because they are to similar to a PC for me. Like 360 and PS3 were this gen.

If not for the third party exclusives (why are third party games exclusive anyway....) I would not have bought a Ps3 or 360. And most of the console games come to PC.

I spend way to much money this gen and played less than in every prior generation. This was also the first gen in which I owned every console (last gen was only GC PS2 and DC no xbox).

I got a WiiU for free and will stick with it and my PC (which will be ugraded next year). I am happy that I got a WiiU because Xenoblade is simply the best RPG I played in the last 15? years. And being able to play its successor will be awesome.

PC gaming's biggest advantages for me are the superior input methods better graphics (in the long run) better customization (mods etc.) and being 100% backwards compatible forever plus cheaper games and the ability to play the games without using the disk (while still OWNING the disk which is important for me as a collector) and I will always have a PC anyways so there is no need to buy a special device which costs 500 or so bucks.

Plus since I have 2 PCs most of the time (old one and new one and sometimes even a laptop) I can invite friends and play most multiplayer games in "local multiplayer" without the need to buy the games several times.
