That's not a prediction, that's just expressing the theoretical minimum and maximum numbers.

Even a monkey could today predict that the PS3's lifetime sales will land somewhere between 90 and 105 million units.

PS3 = 95 - 100 m
Wii = 103 - 105 m
X360 = 85 - 90 m

Next-Gen:

3DS = > 100 m
Vita = 50 m
Wii U = 85 - 90 m
PS4 = 85 - 90 m
XBone = 35 - 40 mil

Actually, I'm pretty sure said monkey would have it around 95-110m

Yeah, I guess. At least if it's an optimistic monkey.

^ I am not a gambler. Some of my predictions are bold, some are not. But they do conflict with those delusional 100m+ 3DS Wii U people out there...

Yes yes, but I want to see bold perdictions.

Prophecies like the ones from BHR-3. Do you know of him?

And show us a perdiction for the next gen and then stick to that perdiction.

How much do you expect 3DS to sell this year, exactly? o.O

45m this year would be almost 17.5m sales in 2013, which is more like the absolute max it will reach. 50m would be almost 22.5m.

Hmmm yes, you're right - I might have exaggerated the numbers. I was thinking that 3DS had sold 30m in like January or something like that. 17.5m units this year doesn't seem like that big of a stretch considering it's done like 15m/year up until now. It won't get over 20m this year. I HIGHLY doubt that - I'm no Tbone ;)

I'll make next gen predictions about a year from now.  Any guess now is just luck considering we know nothing so far.

The DS is far from over. It will sell in the west for a while longer.

 

I would agree with Vita and Wii U. Not the 3DS though. Probably more like 90-120 million.


But it seems like the 3DS has already peaked after its first price cut only a few months from release.  Personally I think largescale handdheld gaming as seen in the Gameboy and PSP is over.  It will probably live on, but as much smaller levels.  Smartphones have just decimated that segment...
