Forums - Nintendo - Retro Studios Working On A “New Brand”?

E3 is less than two weeks away, and we still don’t know what Nintendo subsidiary Retro Studios is working on. In fact, we don’t even know if the developer’s new game will be at E3. But last month, Nintendo revealed its plans to introduce the studio’s new project in the “not too distant future,” so it’s possible that we will see the game in the company’s pre-E3 Nintendo Direct, which airs on June 11th.

While some are speculating that Retro Studios is working on a new Metroid title, IGN‘s Senior Vice President of Content & Publisher, Peer Schneider, said in a recently aired Nintendo-centric podcast that he’s heard rumors that the developer is working on a “new brand.” What do you think Retro Studios is working on? Will we see its new project at E3? Let us know in the comments below.

A throwaway comment in a podcast by someone who "heard rumors" is not something to put any stock in whatsoever.

I'm content to wait. Speculation seems a waste of time with less than two weeks to go.

New Brand is new IP. Nothing new to ths rumor

It would be nice to see them do something original, of their own. But at the same time, if they could do it RIGHT, while I would vastly prefer the SF64 team to just get back together and do it, I would like to see if Retro could do a GOOD Star Fox game. No bullshit, no gimmicks, getting out of fucking vehicles and walking around. Just STAR FOX.

The wording is a bit strange .... "brand" doesn't necessarily imply a new IP. Could still be Star Fox.

For whatever reason I think of Nintendo putting Silicon Knights on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.

I'm honestly glad they're off Metroid ... enough with Metroid already.

There's never enough Metroid... >=/

All I know is that it's gonna be epic... =)

A new brand could be anything. Nintendo isn't afraid to drop out any genre and given their success with Metriod and Donkey Kong they should have earned some leeway with Nintendo if the project has a solid enough basis.

He's not just anyone, he's the Head of Publishing for IGN.  He's been there for like 20 years.  If he felt confident enough about the rumors to mention them publicly, you can bet there is some merit to it.

Also, as a side note, IGN also vaguely broke the news about Retro making Donkey Kong for Wii prior to E3 2010, though they rarely ever get any credit for it.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

just realized this might be "a new chapter in the metroid saga" i feel like that could be lame. hope that's not the case

I hope they are not working on the grey-bald-FPS game...
