Just curious.......PC gaming uses DRM standard. I mean, I can't give my copy of Starcraft to a friend because the game is tied to my computer.

PC gaming is the master race apparently......

So what's with the double standard?

Huh? SC2 is tied to your bnet account not computer, you can sell your bnet account I guess. Get them to change the password. It's against ToS but not hard.

I stand corrected on the technicals, but my point stands that my game is tied to me.

PC gamers are the master race. So why is it bad for Xbox?

Lack of choice. People who release games on a PC can choose to have DRM or not, whereas on XB1 every game has it. And people don't exactly love DRM on PC either, remember SimCity?

Sometimes DRM is accepted because it adds value, for example Steam. It came out having a digital locker for your games that worked across many PCs, which was innovative for the time. And Gaikai and Onlive had streaming, instant gaming without downloads across many devices.

People might have accepted it on the XB1 if Microsoft added any kind of value, but they haven't managed to show any. So far, the only information they have given is negative.

You dont need crazy graphics to sell your game. Call of Duty sells just fine and its graphics has become average over the generation. Sure their was an initial investement with COD4: MW but since then everything has just been slightly upgraded, polished and reused. Uncharted levels of graphics is really not needed. I would even argue that certain games that went for graphical fidelity like Killzone 2. FF13 was to the detriment of the franchise in both sales and quality.

Saying 90% of indie devs are bankrupt isnt saying much when most of them start out at that point. Also i wasnt saying the big guys need to downscale that much but just keep control over costs. Again i use Tomb Raider and Hitman as examples...why were those games big budget titles? I can guarentee you that The Witcher 2 cost less to make and it has better graphics and is a better game. Publishers need to keep their costs inline with realistic sales expectations. If someone was thinking Tomb Raider was gonna sell more than what it did then someone needs to be fired.

And again im not saying they are just greedy and want more money (some are though!) but they are not addressing the real issues. They can keep charging consumers making console gaming more expensive, less people will buy the games, costs will still skyrocket and the returns wont be good enough even with decent sales.

Some developers are doing so well right now because of this its hilarious when the big companies are getting it soooo wrong.

I kinda agree with you on this point. That's why I like companies like Nippon Ichi. No over-imperialism, no blockbusters, trying to please their fanbase, expanding bit by bit and never dev games that can make you bankrupt if it goes wrong

So you are saying if MS can manage to show that it can have a steam-like effect, then allz good?

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Good for them, really. I'm just not sure how much of a difference this makes for the gamers side of the bargain, I'm betting this is more for gamers to buy into them.

Are people actually thinking this is a Sony PR stunt?

You do realise that these guys are replying in their personal capacity as a result of being directly tagged in thousands of tweets?

So im really struglling to see how this is being done for gamers to buy into Sony? Or did i just not read your post correctly?

I'm not saying it's a PR stunt, nope. I'm saying that ultimately the end result is that gamers will buy into them, and has little bearing on the ultimate decision. I don't think it's an organized effort no.

I'm saying they could save it if they have done something innovative. Something like Steam wouldn't be enough these days, as the digital stores on the consoles cover those features. Plus look at Origin on PC. Everyone hates that, even though it is pretty much like Steam, because it is old news and only made for DRM.

I would be fine with MS doing this online/used games thing, but only if there is some amazing feature that means it is necessary. Otherwise we have a better console without it.

I've been thinking that the DRM Sony will likely fall back on is something related to Gaikai. People with PSN were making accounts sharing games and just paying a slice of the fees. Sony will probably want to make sure they get the full cut for everything Gaikai related. Perhaps 1 PSN ID/1 PS4 or something.

Also on the point that PC users are being extremely hypocritical about this entire DRM thing. They are, in most cases they bitch about DRM on anything/everything. Also considering PC usually lacks the biggest titles consoles get... not sure how they're "winners" in any instance. That's coming from a PC user.

There are two things that make DRM acceptable in my eyes.

1) Cheaper pricing.
2) More convenient.

Steam did both, Steam sales makes even the poorest of sobs capable of having a large games library and it's more convenient because for the first time in PC gaming, Steam automagically patches every single game in the client and has all the games in one easy location and provides a stable feature-rich environment that millions of gamers use.

However, that's in stark contrast to what the PC gaming used to be like, often you would have your games shortcuts scattered all over your PC, never patched and you paid a premium.

This is in stark contrast to the Xbox One, where it has gone from being more convenient to being more of a hassle and arguably more expensive, that's why it's worth kicking up a fuss.
It's not just a PC gamer mentality.
