The way I see it:

If you have no high speed internet, and no way of getting internet you are not in a market for a next gen console for different reasons

If you have high speed internet available, but can't afford it, again you are not in the market for the next gen consoles

if you have high speed internet but its "spotty" and disconnects often, you should be able to enjoy the console as you would any other console (single player mostly, multiplayer when internet is available)

Sorry but this is one of the most moronic things I have read on the internet.

Last I heard 31 million xbox360's were not hooked up to the internet.

If Microsoft want to ignore these consumers, they can at their peril.

31 million without internet eh? A console that sold 75 million in sales and 40+ million "paying" xbox live gold members an god knows how many silver ones that microsoft doesnt include in their numbers has 31 million users without internet? And this is after the infamous RROD which pretty much decimated all first and second gen xboxes and a slim redesign which made many people rebuy the console?

I wouldnt throw out the word moronic lightely but...

If I was microsoft i wouldnt lose too much sleep over lost business due to internet not being available. We are in year 2013 where smartphone sales are over 200 million every year based on the the premise of being "always on" and having available 3g/4g internet everywhere you go. Without internet they are useless devices, as are tablets, laptops...Google has an entire operating system called Chrome which doesnt work unless you have internet. And all those products are growing rapidly... Next to go internet only will be Television when IPTV becomes the norm in the next few years.

46 million gold AND silver memebers.

77 - 46 = 31

Oh and I don't know if you noticed, but smartphones generally come with their own internet connection.

This is a serious question: Do you work for Microsoft or EA?

You are the only person I've seen actively defending the stripping of consumer rights for the benefit of two of the greediest corporations on the planet.

I personally have 3 xboxes, and 2 that have died. I know more friends than i can count on my fingers that had more than 1 xbox 360. Saying that 77 - 46 = 31 million users with xboxes without xbox live or internet is misguided and downright wrong. How many people bought new xbox when the slim came out?

And no I dont work for EA or Microsoft. I do work for a fairly large cutting edge tech company that provides internt, cable, develops and supports websites, various apps, uses DRM for video streaming and deals with companies such as Google, Microsoft, CBS and many others.

The bottom line is that the future of technology is digital and that is where microsoft is and wants to be...nothing Microsoft showcased at their conference is wrong or uncommon in the world of digital technology. They actually appear very resonable in trying to work with everyone to provide the best possible solution that works for retal, publishers and gamers. So no, I dont intend to defend greed but instead defend technology in general.

It all makes sense now. I won't bother arguing with you anymore.

I don't have any ulterior motives or conflicts of interest.

I am simply a consumer, and if a company plans to shit all over my rights as a consumer I will simply not waste my money on them.

I know about 15 people with xbox360s and I myself have 2.

All of them are planning on switching to either Sony or Nintendo for their next console.

Let's just see how well this works out for Microsoft.

Shows how naive you are...how would I have "alterior" motives? You think I will personally make more money if Microsoft screws consumers or something...which they are really not doing. Har har. Microsoft employs 120,000 people...are they all in on it?

Im perfectly fine if you stop replying since id rather see you go sell crazy conspiracy theories somewhere else.

@disolitude

You clearly have a vested interest in the success of streaming, cloud computing, DRM and internet services.

I do not.

Hence you are promoting them and I, as a consumer, am attacking them.

We can dance this dance all day long but in the end the numbers will speak.

Let's wait and see hey??

Digital DRM really isn't designed to screw the consumer but I do see how some people may see it that way. Its unforunately necessary and it is up to Microsoft, Sony and anyone else going all digital to implement DRM that will please all parties involved.  Let's see what they come up with before we start completely writing them off...

I personally don't have "vested interests" but just like the convinience and most things that come with buying digital. I have 60 Gb of music on Google music in the cloud. I stream Xbox Music as well. I rent from iTunes and Xbox Live. Havent bought a DVD,Bluray in ages. Looking forward to the day I can stop buying physical games too and can carry my entire library wherever I am.

"

Sony has seen your hashtag and took note. We now have absolutely no intention to release Dr Mario on PS4"

Twitter hashtags protesting DRM totally worked!

What I don't understand is how fast your internet connection needs to be for a simple activation handshake. I understand that seamless updates could be a huge pain, but for DRM the internet requirement is minimal.

You must have some kind of internet connection being on vgchartz and all.
