MS does cloud better than anyone.

I don't think people realise this.

It's a core business for them.

Actually Google does it best no denying it.

Kowenicki is right, MS's cloud Azure offerings are the greatest of their kind in the entire world. Better than Google and everyone else.

EDIT: I had forgotten Amazon, which is currently the leader over Azure, but the gap is closing fast.

I can't believe we argue about the knowhow and seize of the cloud business between Sony and Microsoft.
Microsoft is currently No. 2 worldwide when it comes to cloud computing, just behind Amazon.

Amazon is leading, but MS made HUGE steps in 2013.
Google and IBM are miles away. Sony is not even in this business.

good read.

Thanks for this!  People seem to forget that Netflix is mostly run on Amazon servers.  Plus Amazon has it's own streaming business and plenty of other cloud/data stuff.

Unless it's a local host, any multi player game today is already using the cloud.  MS is saying they are going to make it more powerful.  I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with more options and more power.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Good they are making money. BUT it says NOTHING about their infastructure vs. MS's. MS outages were way more widespread than google's last year and google is projected to triple this year for $1billion as well.

Here is a comparison of the 2's infrastucture. Google wins no doubt.

http://blog.cloudsherpas.com/hot-topics/google-apps-vs-office-365-a-comparison-of-gmail-and-exchange-system-availability/

3 questions:

Did you just come up with a blog post?
And why are you switching from cheering for Sony vs MS to cheering for Google vs MS?
And since when does making money not matter anymore?

Anyway MS signed some really big deals in past months for Office 365 and it is leading against Google. And this is for a reason.
The Server and Tools division of MS is doing a FANTASTIC job for the past years.

I'm not cheering for anything this is in reply to koweniki who claimed MS is BIGGEST in the cloud which is false in both terms of revenue and infastructure. And when does making money dictate who offers the better service/products?

Kowe is right for enterprises - and that was his point.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

How is requiring an online connection adding more options? People seems to be skeptical and suspicious given the current DRM focus. Including developers like Jonathan Blow:

"Computation in the cloud" has never worked for realtime games. It was BS last generation with Cell, and it is BS now. So, why is MS ...

... saying it? I am pretty sure I know why, it is tactical in preparation for details that haven't got out yet.

And I thought this $10 indie game braid would be so much better with the cloud...

Have you heard the latest news?

And i thought it cant get any worse....

This part I agree with Jonathan Blow... seems like MS is trying to change the focus to release the final specs way below PS4 specs.

And cloud will not help in nothing about console power.

Google Fiber is well on it's way in the US and here in Australia, our Government is rolling out a NBN, (national broadband network) which can reach speeds of up to 40x ADSL. It'll happen soon, Japan is doing something similar too.... Not that it matters too much for the Xbox ONE!!! LOL!

You mean the NBN that's going to be scrapped come September when the Liberals win the federal election?

Ah yes, because I do not join all technical discussions I can't tell if the performance is good or not. Give me a break.

You did not reply to kowen, no. You only replied to that convo when I commented on it. Was his claim spot on, not worth criticizing at all?

I don't care how you measure performance - I want to try it out. This discussion is useless.

Actually, I really believe I replied to kowen yesterday, perhaps not in this thread, because I think he is a bit too hyped because of the 300k servers from MS. But as you insist keeping me in this discussion I almost never read that you were replying if a Sony-fan is talking bullshit... But perhaps that is just my subjective view.

In many area's it's available now... Including mine actually, Melbourne outer suburbs. I just checked. How can they scrap it now? It would cost more money to do so than it would for further expansion and upkeep... Seriously, go to most Australian ISP websites and they'll have it. Most of the thing is being done within the year...

http://www.iinet.net.au/nbn/nbn-coverage-map.html

Never-mind actually, found this coverage map. It covers pretty much everywhere with even a moderate population. They won't/can't scrap it. Just changing the name, claiming it's something else and pretending they did it either doesn't count.... I sadly could see this happening.
