Sorry to burst the bubble, but regardless of overal sales, no matter what microsoft has still won second place for the generation from a business standpoint. Sony is only ahead because of Japan really. Japan is an enormously different market than North America and Europe which are relatively similar by comparison. To get the japanese market they need to make a slew of exclusives which eat up their own profits just making them. Not to mention many of those games never leave Japan. I would rather be in Microsoft's position than I would Sony's. No matter what happens, microsoft has all kinds of money coming in from a subscription based online service, the most sales from multiplatform games, as well as the most sales for first party games.

No offense but, first, you don't know what the numbers are from a business standpoint and, secondly, nobody says that Nintendo won last gen from a business standpoint - they say the PS2 won.

umm yes I do, I don't have an exact number, but the info is so overwhelmingly in microsofts favor and with a huge margin for error I don't see how my statements could be wrong.  I didn't even mention the manufacturing costs of the PS3 console.  They weren't even making money on the console until something like 4 years into its lifecycle.  Future prospects is anyones guess, but PS3 is number 2 nowhere other than number of units shipped.

And for your second point Nintendo is number 1 in every respect except for gamer love.  I shouldn't even have to argue on either one of these points.  The reaction should be "oh yea, he has a point, but hey we still passed them in number of units shipped."  Of course I noticed that your entire reply simply stated an opinion that was backed up by nothing. Or were you just trolling?

Congrats to Sony?? I don't know why Sony fanboys are celebrating. Oh that's right they are shareholders so they get more dough when Sony gets more dough. No actually, they're school kids who just want to brag to their peers much like "my daddy can beat up your daddy".

I don't get what's the big deal. Good for Sony. Good console. Good games. Large userbase. I will be buying one myself soon.

Do not forgot to pick Heavy Rain

News like this is better than winning a new car for the majority of vgchartz members...

The world didn't change, but it has forced Sony to step up their game for both the current & future gen.  They lost significantly from a financial perspective.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

Never before in the history of the console wars has 2nd place meant so much to so many lmao!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I don't trust VGChartz with the consoles, they are not reliable when it comes to hardware numbers.

We gotta admit Xbox 360 is SUCH a beast for staying ahead all these years.

Kinect saved it 3 years ago, it was about to die.

It probably meant in the Genesis(MegaDrive)/SNES generation. There weren't as MANY consoles though xD

Gratz to PS3, but that huge adjustment happened all at once spoiled all the suspense!
