Forums - Gaming - Will there ever be another casual Centric Console again, like the Wii?

Smartphones and tablets seem to have the casual market covered these days.

The Xbox One seems to be the next machine for that market. It has that entertainment appeal.

Do you know that Kinect Adventures sold 20m units globally?

Just what I thought. Xbox One might be the best sold console of Next-Gen, especially in the US. Just not the most PLAYED console.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

I completely agree with that last paragraph
It really is everything 3rd parties fault
They couldve made Wii the best system of all time but instead they treated N like a whore, how did they expect N to make a system for them is beyond ridiculous, 3rd parties are a ugly animal indeed
Like vultures or crows

Xbox One is clearly trying to take that market.

They will get it in America, at least.

(For the record I largely agree)

The thing about the casual or expanded market is that it's not the same as the market that buys Babiez games. I don't think people in the industry truly understand that.

The expanded market will only play the very best of the very best, and have no patience for games, let alone bad ones.

damn guess everyone beat me to it.

Yes I do.

But does anyone really want the casual gamer? They buy one or two games and developers think they have to make games bad for them to be interested. How many good kinect games were there?

A few! Check out this article by Barozi we made a while back:

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/250631/kinect-hardware-and-software-sales-pre-christmas-roundup/

It's not really casual as it might be extremely picky or unwilling to settle for crap or unwilling to invest time. I know that my family are not gamers, not casual and not dedicated, yet they played Wii Sports because it got them interested instantly. People don't understand that market and probably never will in the near future, and keep throwing crap content at this audience thinking that's what they want but it isn't.

This market is the same one that gives box-office hits like Ironman and the Avengers the revenue they deserve, because they are decent hits. The industry doesn't understand that I reckon.

I don't see the Xbone filling the gap, not at the price it will probably be sold at (~500$ since Kinect2 is bundled).
