Forums - Microsoft - I stand corrected. Kinect no longer sucks!

After E3 2011 I made THIS THREAD where I argued how crappy Kinect really is. I got banned for that thread (odd as I backed up my complaints but whatev... that's history).

Fact is, Kinect did have major issues on X360. It laggy and limited and every game for it shows this.

Now, we've see the new Kinect 2.0 in Xbox One. Unfortunately MS didn't actually show any games or real uses beyond a very brief tech demo. Well, watch this video. Kinect 2.0 is finally where the original promised. It is now a really well done piece of equipment with a lot of potential.

I still argue that it won't work with the majority of genres out there, but the tracking and capabilities are finally done very well with what appears to be zero noticeable lag.

Enjoy.

How does it perform in less than ideal environments, which are likely to be found in many customers' houses especially outside the US? Small, dark, crowded or low contrast conditions? Foreign or nonstandard accents? People with disabilities or limited movement ranges?

None of that would be a problem if the Kinect wasn't compulsory.

Nah it still sucks. It may be a good piece of technology, and in other applications it may be useful. For gaming though? Nope. Maybe M$ will prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

All Microsoft has to do to make Kinect "hardcore" friendly is let you change the "x-box" to whatever you want.

Imagine if you could be "Jarvis tv on" and maybe even go into settings and have it so that he sometimes would talk, like saying "hello Jim, welcome back" with a voice you wanted, such as Jarvis' from Iron Man.

People would love that. But No, saying "xbox" is just dumb. If it worked so that you didn't have to ever say "xbox" I would love it big time, or as I said above, if it let me change the name to what I wanted.

Cause watching this, everything seems amazing. Heck I would find it amazing without even games to play, just making my entertainment better. Being able to just say "go to espn, or mtv or fox, ect" without a remote is sweet, or swtiching from different devices like movie, tv, ect. It's all great. but I HATE the saying "xbox"

Hell what was xbox one's codename? orbis? That would be cool. Saying "orbis play movie" or ect. But freaking word "xbox" is lame. I think its the dang "x's" in it. Such a harsh sounding letter. or the lameness of saying "box" I mean really box, how untechy, cool, sophisisticated does that sound. I mean you have this amazing gadget and you call it a box?

Heck I have an App on my phone that is Iron Man based.  When I unlock my phone Jarvis goes "welcome back master" in his voice and he tells me the time and weather and other things.  Let companies sell Kinect themed apps.  So you could buy voice set for Jarvis or the car from knight rider, or other cool things.

Looks cool, I'm actually excited for it.

Glad MS managed to at least somewhat shift public perception of kinect now that its much better

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

The tech is definitely awesome! I hope this time kinect-tech can finally show what it always was meant to do!

Not that we have a choice.

the kinect tech was always impressive. but for games it simply sucks. the games for kinect prove this. other than dance games, sport mini games and fitness games it was absolutely useless. MS didnt even bother show one kinect game for the X1. just showes what they want to use it for.

yea, it was always my stance that Kinect can be really good if the tracking works accurately and is fast enough - good that they seem to be there with 2.0
