Forums - Sony - GT5:P Bashing is ridiculous

I keep seeing, not only on vgcharts, but on other websites too, people bashing GT5:P (Gran Turismo 5: Prolouge) and its price. It really seems silly for people to be criticizing a game in which most of them have only seen screenshots and promo videos. I keep hearing things like, "I'm not paying 40 bucks for a demo." This game is not a demo, if you want to play a demo of the game for free, make a Japanese PSN account where you can download the GT5:P demo, you get about 4 cars, 1 track, and 1 event.

Prolouge has 40 different cars ranging from Daihatsu to Ferrari, around 50 seperate events, many of which have different objectives so it doesn't get boring (normal racing, mission racing, time trails, etc.), 10 different tracks that are drop dead beautiful, GTTV - a program that gets updated with full 1080p racing news/shows, and supports online racing with up to 16 people. I'm sorry, but there is more in the Prolouge of GT5 than there was in Motorstorm, and a lot of people had no problem paying $60 bucks for that game. This game has a ton of replay value, which I think many of us consider a very valuable quality in the game and truly is "The New Standard" in racing games. The physics of GT5:P blow Forza 2 out of the water. Forza 2 is its own game and has its own strengths I realize, but in terms of realism in driving it doesn't compare. Also, for people worried and po'd there is no damage, that is taken care of with the 5 second penalties if you bump into other cars, walls. This game is very challenging, I have played it for hours already and have only achieved 1st in about 75% of the races so far, you cannot be bumping into cars, walls and expect to win the race, you have to learn how to really drive and pass other cars cleanily.

I know this isn't the same thing, but I know a ton of people who had no problem going out an plopping down $60 bucks on crackdown, with no intention to ever play crackdown, in order to play the Halo 3 beta. This is really no different except for the fact that Halo 3 beta was only a limited amount of time, really didn't have as much content as GT5:P. and the fact that Halo 3 came out 4 months later. You can probably bet that GT5 won't come out until Q1 09, if Polyphony Digital's record stays the same in delaying these games. That means you will get a full year of playablity out of this game, before the actual game comes out, I really don't think asking $40 for that is excessive at all considering everthing you get.

Yeah, GT5 is going to dwarf this game, but GT5 is going to be HUGE (and probably have a ton of microtransactions), I'm just comparing this to other games out there. The Prolouge of a huge game is practically the size of many normal games. I can truly say that I don't feel shortchanged at all with my money, and I spent $50 importing it from Japan. GT5:P has exceeded my expectations in every way.
Its your money, you can wait a full year for the full game to come out, but just remember a year can be a very long time, when anticpating a game.

Awww sh*t! That's the only way I can win! Guess I won't be getting it unless you can turn that off.

Oh by the way, does anyone know how much space the final GT5 will take up on a disc? I'm sure its going to be way beyond 9GB, but just how much of a blu-ray disc will it be utilizing?

I'm gonna have to be the bad guy here and disagree.

What if other games released unfinished versions of themselves for nearly the same price of the finished version.

Basically, its milking the GT:5 userbase in an unethical way. Even if you like it, as a GT:5 fan, it's not a good thing, and not buying this game will let developers of other games know they can't pull that kinda stuff on the general public.

I don't like it. I think it could become a bad habit in the game industry, charging 40 bucks for what is basically, about 1/10th of a game.

I don't judge those who buy it, however, I do not like it. I think it spoils the game when it does come out, I think that it is an attempt to milk the rather large GT fanbase, I think the demo should be free to download, far shorter, and then everyone could enjoy the actual game when its released.

It's like, if they released a 40 dollar Brawl Demo with 10 characters and 5 stages. Would people have bought it? Hell yes. Would it have slightly ruined the magic of the game, been a ripoff, and a cashin? Of course. That's just my opinion.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

^^Didn't that happen with Warhawk, wasn't it suppose to release with a Single Player Campaign but then they cut it out and still charged the $60.

No, Warhawk was only $40 for the download or $60 for disc + headset.

I'll be getting this and GT5. I have no problem getting a mini-game version of the REAL game for a price $20 less, about a year before I can actually get the game.

Apparently people have short memories and forgot previous the prologue game or they are naysayers.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Frankly, GT5 will be too much game for me. I don't play racing games much, but if I'm going to get the urge to play one anytime soon it's going to be focused on GT5. The Prologue would give me enough content to make me happy.

I don't think I've used much more than 50 different vehicles in all of the racing games I've ever played combined, let alone cars. This game would offer me two Evos, which is two less than I believe I deserve, but that's enough for many hours of fun. It also has several other cars I'd like to try but not so much stuff I'd be overwhelmed. Really, there's about 20 or so cars that I'd add if I could, but I don't think each car in a video game is worth a dollar (which is why I won't mind losing dlc).

Frankly, for $20 less I get what is in my mind a better experience than what the competition releases for $60 on the same system. I would also not have to wait for the full version and I'll get a game that is just as big as EA's or MS's more expensive racing games (which may explain why they've started to fail miserably in NA lately). GT5P is the really the perfect fit for me, and the full game wouldn't offer enough to me that I'd actually pay more for.

So, personally, I feel that GT5P is actually a service to the fans, and does nothing tangible to harm them whatsoever.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Or they bashed the previous prologue games as well?

Personally I think that if you want to buy the prologues go ahead, but in my opinion they are a rip off thus I personally wouldn't buy.

The Prolouge is around 4.5GB with just 10 tracks (5 environments), 50 events (each only 1 race each), and 40 cars .  I would expect the real game to have at least 40 different environments (about 100 different tracks), 100 events with multiple races each, and about 400 cars (yes, there will be less than in GT4, but seriously why do we need Honda Odyseeys in GT games?)  I think this is going to put the game roughly at around 40-45GB.  It will be a monster of a game and expect mucho downloadable content too.  I have yet to see anything confirm rally races will be in this game and I have not seen any videos of rally races.  I will be disappointed if those get left out of the final game, but wouldn't be suprised due to space limitations, and having to make a whole different physics model due to the fact that the cars aren't running on asphalt, which certainly would be time consuming.
