Forums - Gaming - PS4, XBOX ONE, which is the more powerful console?

I'm not starting a war or anything, I'm just curious...

I mean, the XBOX ONE (Lol I don't like the name but meh) has a 64bit OS, the PS4 has a 32bit OS.

The PS4 has 8GB GDDR5 RAM, the XBOX ONE has 8GB RAM, didn't say how fast it was...

Their CPU's are the same, right? Except I heard Sony "enhanced" theirs, not sure if Microsoft did the same or not

And it just confuses me as to which is the more powerful... I mean, it's not the power, it's how you use it, right? (Sex joke!)

Anyone care to jump in and give their opinion on which is the more powerful console, or just come straight out and say it?

Cheers!

XBOX ONE is kinda a lame name but X1 i think sounds cool

Forgive my apparent ignorance when it comes to nerdy tech specs, but while I understand the Wii U has less RAM (2gb vs. 8gb), and the CPU is said to be unimpressive, it has been my understanding that the GPU was actually rather good, and would be able to "hold it's own" this gen.

So while comparing console specs is always an apples to oranges type of affair, from what little is actually known, how does the Wii U's GPGPU compare to those of the other upcoming consoles?

From what we know to be true at the moment based on rumours which are most likey true as MS didnt bother to deny them and they werent gonna shout about a spec they know thats worse.

PS4 50% more GPU processing power than xbox one
PS4 7gigs of usable GDDR5 vs Xbox one 5gigs of usable DDR3 + 32megs of esram
CPU almost identical
both have bluray
both have hard drives

So IF this is true, PS4 noticeably more powerfull, but id say probably wont be noticeable in launch games, as devs wont be close to maxing out these consoles.

How would you address the full 8GByte of ram in the PS3 with a 32bit OS?

Physical Address Extension.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension

This adds an extra 4 bits tot he addressable space (36 bits total) which allows for up to 236   or about 64 GB of RAM.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

PS4, where's the debate?

Around the Network

if we take it as if the PS4 was the 100% of expected performance, WiiU would be in the 15-25% range of the reference, while X1 would be in the 75-90% range

There is all this evidence in the form of rumors and leaks combined with the info given(or not given) out today + taking into account the costs that a Kinect 2.0 would add + researching what type of RAM would best suited an App-focused platform = The next XBox is using DDR3.

I made a logical conclusion from all this information I have gathered. It wasn't a random guess or what I hope is true. I just layed out to you how I came to this conclusion. No mistakes were made on my part.

Hmmm, I didn't anticipate this to be so difficult to understand. Let me try to simplify.

It doesn't matter what all kinds of evidence is saying. The point is that no matter if your conclusion turns out to be true or not, the argument you built to show it is invalid. What's more, it's been known to be invalid for over 2000 years.

So, stop trying to think of this as you being right about which machine is stronger, the actual specs of the two machines is completely irrelevant to wether your argument is sound or not. Unfortunately, the case you built is logically invalid, and it will remain invalid for 10 000 years and beyond. That is my point. I want you, and everyone else on this site, to stop making arguments that are logically incorrect.

Already have a thread on this.

Far more details and been around since 2011.

Fact is...

WiiU <<<< XOne < PS4.

PS4 has faster/better RAM and a slightly better GPU. However, the majority of games will be identical between them.

So really, does it matter?

im not sure about this but i read somewhere that the PS4 CPU is 2ghz comparted to the xbox's 1.6. not sure though

Both 1.6GHz CPUs.

The specs have already been confirmed. Eat crow. I was right, leaks were right. Are you ready to apologize?

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/05/21/the-tech-spec-test-xbox-one-vs-playstation-4.aspx

How much RAM does the PS4 have to access games, do you know? and what's a Bluray Drive 6xCAV? I know it's 6 speed, but what's CAV? They should have gone faster, don't bluray drives go like 12x and over in terms of read speed?

Rumors point to 7GB for games. Sony has yet to confirm it but it seems likely that's what it will be.
About the Blu-Ray drive.  http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/214141-DVD-Writer-vs-Recorder-CAV-vs-CLV

"CLV = speed of disc rotation is changed to maintain a constant transfer rate from the inner most to outer most edge of the disc.

CAV = Speed of disc rotation is constant, thus the transfer rate is slowest towards the inner edge, while it is the fastest at the outer edge.

P-CAV = a combination of CAV and CLV.

Z-CLV = the disc is divided into " CLV zones" each of which are written to at a constant speed. For example, a 12x write might be divided into 6x, 8x, 10x, and 12x zones.

Z-CLV can be slow, I have heard of instances where a 16X Z-CLV burn took longer than a 12x CAV."

Discs are read from the inside out, right? What does this mean for the PS4, that it's using a slow drive like the PS3? Well, depending on which part of the disc it's reading? I never really got this, lol.

PS4 disc drive is much faster than that of the PS3. That's all you really need to know. The specifics really aren't that important.
PS3 reads the disc at 2X, PS4 at 6X.

My argument was correct. I formed a LOGICAL conclusion based on info we knew.

Think of it like this, gunshots are heard, neighbor calls the cops, dead wife is found, gun is found with fingerprints of the husband, husband is nowhere to be found. 1 + 1 = 2
