Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE requires a fee to play used games. And if the game is new the fee is $60!

Reported on Wired too -

"Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc."

This is interesting. Purchase a new game at $60, and share it with a friend who pays the $10-15 dollar fee. Split the total cost ($70-75). Both now own the game, paying $35-37.50 each. Now, let's share it with more friends and split the total cost...

Don't think it will be that easy I'm afraid.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

So always online for register every game... after that standard offline play.

Bad.

And Sony only do that for online Multiplayer that in fact needs to be always online lol.

I hope Sony doesn't follow suit. I don't care how big or small the fee is it's the principle of having to pay for the ability to play a game I purchased and already own.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

-Either that Xbox One DOES require online at least for the first time you install the game. So if you don't have an internet connection, you can't start up a game, so it's not too far away from ALWAYS ON.

This is what I want clarified and makes this from discouraging news to making this system unplayable for me.

Hey, if you buy used, the fee will still make it cheaper then paying full price.

But in the end, its to encourage smart buying and keeping what you own.

No big deal here people.

what about people like me who rent games cause 60$ is a lot of money and i can't buy every game that comes out

I let my step bro borrow at least 25 of my games this gen, and burrowed several from him. I also rent. I am not pleased if true. If PS3 does this it is all PC for me and perhaps pirating.

Do we know that this is the case? Could it be that you can play it with the disc inserted without having to pay a transfer fee?

Id say wait a year for the price to go down and the used prices will be even lower.

But I wouldn't exactly call gamers a patient people......the industry is built upon impulse buying. We shall see how MS addresses the renting issue in the future I suppose

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

That just sealed my decision to go for a PS4. Fees if I want to lend a game from a friend? Nope, not gonna pay that.

This will also be seen on the PS4. Only Sony is leaving the option to the developers. It won't be mandatory. Which is indeed a plus.

Whatever the fee is, it's going to directly devalue used games by that amount. It's taking that fee's value right out of Gamestop's pocket, and used game stores will respond by burying Xbox games in store. Which won't be much work, since trade-in value is going to take a similar hit, so fewer people will even want to trade in.

Since a lot of new game sales are financed through trade-ins, it'll be interesting to see how the changing economics shake out for all parties.
