Sony already kinda does this with online passes, not a big deal.

Shu Yoshida.
If Sony follows this same path then I will not be joining in next gen and only play on PC and in the case with PC, any of the companies that release their games that way on PS4/XB1 will have their PC versions pirated.
Unlike some, I will do my best to send a message.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

They also sounded a little coy on their answer. "Oh, I don't know what we're saying about that... okay, yes, you will be able to play used games." You will be able to play used games on Xbox One (ugh) as well. It will just cost extra. I'm kind of having a hard time believing that Microsoft is jumping out here all by itself, and that third parties (especially EA) aren't going to put the squeeze on Sony to at least give them the option to do this on the PS4. |
Sony already confirmed that it will be up to the publisher to implemented this or not. Sony isn't making it mandatory like MS is doing.

What lousy news. No backward compatibility, "pre-owned fees," and a presentation dedicated to multimedia and multiplatform games.
I don't mean to dump all over Xbox fans, but it's hard to cheer for some of these business decisions.

Same here
It'll be the death kneel for console gaming for me.
Steam, GOG and Gamefly will fill that hole quite nicely.

Let me join you there.
Unless Sony makes an exception for their 1st party titles...because if 3rd parties pull that move with the Xbox One, you bet they´ll also do it with the PS4.

Online passes have traditionally been for the 'online' aspect of games. They are usually 10$.
This fee sounds like it would be used to block out single player along with multiplayer. The fee to play the game will likely be more than 10$ as well.
