Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE requires a fee to play used games. And if the game is new the fee is $60!

Just a thought but I think the registration system breaches fair use laws.

What if i want to swap a game with a friend ?
What if I have rented a game from Blockbusters ?

Exactly! This is what I've been saying this whole hour....it perfectly explains EA's exclusive appearance on their show with the bonus content and the dropping of the online pass.

Now we have to wait and see what Sony's going to do.

I believe Sony already confirmed they are not interfering with the used gaming market and neither will Nintendo. This seems to be a corporate American problem. MS is getting extra content for playing nice though with EA. Sony will still get the games.

Doesn't affect me much, but I do not endorse this. Sounds like some of the "ridiculous" rumours came true

This seems to be only an MS issue, so it doesn't really affect everyone else. I had a feeling MS would be the first to conform though. Activision has their hands in Xbox Live and now EA might have just transferred their online pass through to MS's game recognition on Xbox Live with a fee for used games.

This is bullshit. What if want to play at a friends house?

You stream the game via cloud to that Xbox. Unless your friend doesn't have internet...then you probably have to bring you're console or HDD with

Oh if that works well then it isn't that bad for me. I only bought a couple of used games this gen and only because I couldn't find a new copy.

Reported on Wired too -

"Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc."

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/xbox-one-analysis/

If it works like this 2 (or more) people can pitch in to purchase a game for say $60. Then everyone after the 1st pays $10 to activate the game.  So for 2 people on the day of release of a game can pay $70 and each have full rights to play the game.  4 people pay a total of $100 to play the game day 1.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Well MS did confirm one mystery! if i lent out the game to my friend who pays 10 - $15.. the installed game on my xbox one account will be uninstalled. and the ownership of the game will be transferred to my friends account.. this means games will require internet connection in order to play...!

They also sounded a little coy on their answer. "Oh, I don't know what we're saying about that... okay, yes, you will be able to play used games." You will be able to play used games on Xbox One (ugh) as well. It will just cost extra. I'm kind of having a hard time believing that Microsoft is jumping out here all by itself, and that third parties (especially EA) aren't going to put the squeeze on Sony to at least give them the option to do this on the PS4.

Jack Tretton said they are totally opposed to blocking used games. Who was that that they interviewed though?
