I think gaming trolls should be treated like we Swedes treat real life trolls here in Sweden: take them out the back and shot them. That way they won't return and cause any more trouble.
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
| SlayerRondo said: As someone who has been partial to trolling on gaming forums and when gaming i think the negative perception of trolls is overblown. Has anyone ever seriously been effected by the action's of a troll. Please no trolling on this forum. |
I'm not really sure what a "gaming troll" is really if I'm honest.
Personally I prefer debate to gaming which might be the problem. I think quite a few people here regard me somewhat as a pest. Generally though I'm just trying to put a point of view across from a critical direction, hence the debate. I don't mind being proven wrong, even if I come out with a strongly worded post, for me that's just an invitation to whoever wants to prove me wrong to do so. Got no problem conceding at all, but of course I'll argue back if I feel have a point to add.
From my perspective gaming trolls are the people who are basically biased to begin with and formulate arguments to allow that bias to run amock.
I'll criticize whatever company, game, or idea needs having a go at (imo).
It doesn't really run too well here though I have to say because most people understandly are here for the gaming alone, they really do like the companies they are buying the games from, the companies that make the consoles and so forth.
I certainly have a soft spot for one or two companies, like say Adeline software who made LBA1/2 (or what became of them), LucasArts team from way back when but these days...gaming is more the basis of what I like to discuss because I have been doing it a long time so know a thing or two about it and the technology behind it. Certainly not much good with sales though :p but certainly like the technical.
That then goes back to my perception of the gaming troll, imo it differs to the majority for a gaming troll believes their console of choice is powered by magic dust, pixies and exponential power is achieveable from within it's bowels provided "lazy devs" aren't being lazy.
I'm gaming troll because I don't want to go with the flow or what's cool to like. Take the Wii-U, if I were to discuss what I thought of that candidly, I would be permabanned, but that's the problem here. Because I genuinely am talking from a debate perspective when I post, for me, slagging something off with reason is fair game. I criticize and expect to be criticized, I don't feel silly if someone makes a point that makes me look silly, I feel humbled or defiant with a further point to make.
I guess that's the problem with the internet in general, you have to go with the thinking of the lowest common denominator of each community to have a smooth running place. If I was into (or had a clue about) something more esoteric I'm sure I'd feel much more part of things and not the annoying little prick is always slagging off people's "favourite consoles", "favourite company", "favourite gaming charater".
That basically explains it I think, here we discuss the greatness of gaming. I want to discuss the mechanics of games, companies' behaviour, actions, objectives...maybe it's an age thing, can't possibly imagine being interested in that as a 15-16 year old.
It's not personal....to begin with :D
It becomes personal after being subjected to the same user's posts that are clearly rooted in fandom but then using that fandom as in ingredient in an intellectual discussion. I'm using the word fandom because that is a legitimate term to use in my opion to make a point.
Finally, just a few weeks ago I received a lovely message from someone on vgchartz basically calling me an arrogant bastard who simply has to be right, in relation to a couple of my posts, he cited a couple, but totally misconstrued my emotional process at the time of making those posts. In my book there's nothing wrong with that in a discussion, this isn't a behavioural trait. I love debate and I love sarcasm...what can I say. Maybe not very good at it, but opinions are there to be shared and hammered out and take things forward and if you think you're funny saying something for your own amusement more than anything, why not, as long as it's not grossly indecent or offensive.
Some people really are willing to change their opinion if shown that another's opinion has reasoning behind it.
Sorry, is that not what you were talking about OP?
Anyways. :)
I'll concede that I certainly haven't posted as proper as I'd like to have in the past but last few months, well even this year, haven't put a foot wrong, in my personal view. Of course, that's not the same thing as what a forum might expect as rules aren't universal.

The Troll stands like the hydra, strike one down and three more will troll in his place.
