I dont see any problem if Nintendo add one or two Sonic character for the Mario Kart franchise . They did it with Super Smash Bros.
Having Sonic in a Nintendo game does not constitute an exclusive game, so while it could happen, it certainly isn't "one of the three".

Why is a "Third" game sonic in a Nintendo title? Should not a third game be a third Sonic game of some sort?

Nintendo isn't stupid enough to damage their biggest licence by strengthening a competitor (Sega all star racing) and won't share their biggest profits with SEGA. Tell this to the DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED people they are annoying and should be banned lol. (because its trolling) This mario sonic kart thing is not even around for a week so who cares.
They call it Mario and Sonic Kart for lack of better word. I actually think its more going to be some kind of hoverboard racer like Sonic Riders with Mario charakters. Its not trying to be Mario Kart at all at it still will have Mario characters.

I think its better to say, if Sonic is in SSB, is that now a sega exclusive with Nintendo (no)
If sonic is in Mario Kart (don't think he should be) is that an exclusive between Nintendo and Sega (no, its a Nintendo game)
An exlusive would be another Sonic racing game, but instead of Multiplat its exclusive, or something new all together, the game would have to be a Sonic game, a Sega franchise.
i'm really neither here nor there on the subject, and i don't think MK will be released this year. But, i just want to throw it out there for people who don't think sonic could be in mariokart; pac-man is in the arcade version fo mariokart at my local dave&busters.
MK will be released this year. Nintendo needs it.
