Forums - Nintendo - Yakuza 1 & 2 HD coming to Wii U

Bayonetta would have made more sense...

What i don't get is people lash at EA for ports that are some months old and when sega releases a game from 2005 "it's happening".

I guess they used the cheapest method possible to get the franchise on the platform and will judge the future of the series based on the sales of the HD collection.
30-40k lifetime probably.

Word is that Nintendo was giving incentives for any kind of support, resulting in late ports such as Mass Effect 3, Arkham City, and Deus Ex, so this is probably just the Japanese equivalent of that. I really doubt there's any consideration of making Yakuza jump platforms or go multiplatform or anything. The series isn't that big, so unlike DQ and MH, I don't think it would weather the transition to a new platform very well.

I wonder if the Wii U version will make it out of Japan?

Someone tell Sega we're still waiting on Yakuza 5 on this side of the world too.

well, we just have to tell Nintendo through Miiverse that we want it.

It has been proven that it works, just ask Mother 2 Fans.

Maybe the PS3, but a series that already doesn't sell well in the west, even on the PS3 where the rest of the series has been released, definitely isn't going to be shipped on the Wii U for it to sell even worse. After the poor sales of Dead Souls I'm assuming they're going to use that as an excuse to not release another in the serires.

The PS3 version didnt get a release in NA :(

I hope this version does lol.

No chance. You might as well hope for it to show up on Steam.

mmmm.. interesting. Are they working with it like Square is doing with DeusEx? Like, launching a port of an old game to figure out how to work with the Gamepad and at the same time check if there´s audience for their games inside the Nintendo consumers ? mmmm...

considering that the next big Sonic game will be WiiU exclusive , and that Sega seems to definetely make a serious partnership with Nintendo... I wouldn´t be surprised if the next Yakuza game come only for WiiU. Specially if that´s the case of Nintendo helping and funding the production as it is currently doing with Platinum Games.

Well this came completely out of left field. Hopefully it sells well but looking at how it did on the PS3 I'm having trouble seeing that happening.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Even if it doesn't end up selling well, I have to applaud ninty for at least trying to save the WiiU. It's definitely a good step.

I guess Sony and Nintendo made some deal to have it ported it over to Wii U?

Why would Sony have something to say about this matter?

Because Yakuza 1 and 2 were EXCLUSIVE to PS2 which was stated by the developer, so I would think so would have a say in it some how.

Lots of games are exclusive. It doesn't mean that Sony had a deal with Sega to keep them exclusive.

This is quite significant. The series is quite big in Japan, selling 500k on a regular basis.

Will be interesting to see if future games are exclusives...

Not necessarily because Jakuza 6 will be for the PS4.  They are just getting a port of an enhanced game.    I guess they could also get a port of Yakuza 6, but considering the comments of Toshihiro Nagoshi regarding what they are trying to do for the next Yakuza, it would look like crap.    Yakuza 5 was meant to be for the PS4, but due to the lack of any information regarding the new console they opted to make it for the PS3.  Kind of similar with MGS3 (kojima wanted to make it for the PS3).   So  If they already want the power of the PS4, making it for the WiiU would not make much sense, unless they get a downgraded version; but if that is the case the PS3 would get it too.
