The Last of Us 2 & 3 domains registered by Sony

Perhaps one of the most anticipated games of the year is The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's upcoming PS3 adventure. Although the story is apparently "self-contained," assuming the game sells gangbusters, it's likely to turn into a franchise.

SCEA's private web registrar has registered domain names for lastofus2.com and lastofus3.com, internet sleuth Superannuation points out in a new column on Kotaku.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to be prepared, even if these domain names go unused. But given that every game Naughty Dog has developed has turned into a franchise, it seems inevitable that sequels are bound to happen.

Holy shit. I have never even considered this becoming a franchise. If it turns out good though I don't see why not.

Registering a domain defensively is very cheap compared to fighting a lawsuit over potential future games. This doesn't prove anything. If it was $100,000 to register a domain this'd be news.

I think Sony will pressure them (if they need to) or at least really want them to continue Uncharted all through the gen and the other team will just make whatever they want.

They help each other though. Nothing is really as exclusive as you're kinda insinuating :P. I think once TLOU is out, the TLOU folkes will help the team that is probably doing Uncharted 4 now until that is released or close to release before announcing anything new (while ofcourse they start to discuss what to do after that as well).

 

And also:
Maybe TLOU2&3 won't feature Joel and Ellie. Its fully possible given the world and I can see them doing it with other characters hence each game really being a complete different journey and characters which also makes each game drastically different depending on what one prefers or can relate more to. Possibilities are endless really!

Yeah I think this may be just in case to prevent domain squatting, if they decide to make this a series franchise, because parking a domain name is a lot cheaper then legally obtaining one from a squatter.
