"As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property."

Wait, so basically nothing will change except that on LPs channels there will be Nintendo ads on the side?

That is what the PR says but there's something else that happens...the public doesnt know this but...

They won't actually place strikes on your account, but multiple content matches of the type they are placing can lead to the account standing being affected.

So...there's two options. One make a youtube channel dedicated to Nintendo games or not make videos at all of nintendo games.

Is that youtubes fault? Like is that just youtubes policy for content matches where they choose not to remove content?

I'm a bit confused. That seems annoying, because then every user has to sift and separate nintendo content like you said?

I'm still confused. I heard that as long as your partnership company has copyright agreements with Nintendo there shouldn't be any problem. So this won't affect the big guys that have a partnership with The Game Station or Machinima for example, but smaller LPers will have more problems, not sure if this claims are true.

It may or may not be fair use to make a Let's Play using game video. You see, it could count as a reasonable comment/parody of the content. It's never been to court. Personally I'd interpret it as fair use because it's only excerpting the content and commenting upon it.

The problem is YOUTUBE'S COPYRIGHT POLICY. They have an agreement which is nothing to do with the LAW that allows holders like Nintendo to basically do what they want. Youtube do this because they fear getting sued, even though it's probably legal.

BLAME YOUTUBE, not copyright law or Nintendo.

It's no one's ''fault'' as lets players have no one to blame

Nintendo has to make up for those Wii U losses somehow.

How do you know their losing money off it lol? your bias maybe lol?

I'm pretty sure they said it themselves.

Actually Reggie said that as long as one game is sold per console than they make a profit from each console, excluding the pack in game with the 32 gb model. So they have made money from each of those 3.5 million consoles since i'm pretty sure most of those people bought more than one game.

Nintendo creates the games and youtube provides the platform its not that only NIntendo or for that matter any other company is getting the money Youtube is also getting part of the money.

And noone is complaining about youtube getting the money,

Lets plays started as cool videos that were made for the sake of playing and sharing gameplay not making money. Some greedy people jumped on the lets play wagon and now whine.

Everyone thats basing his/her existence on the income from youtube videos has a serious issue anyways.

I block youtube adds anyways because I watch videos randomly and don't think that people should make money with youtube.

that was actually a misquote or Reggie didn't know better that time.
It was corrected a few days later that they need more than one game to make profit.
but we do not know how many exactly (guesses are 2-3)

*shrugs* how would you feel if people would just not pay you for what you do because they think that you shouldn't make money with your work?

people are spending hours to create that content and thousends to hundreds of thousends (or more) obviously are interested to see that/entertained by that

by the way, do you think people in sports shouldn't be payed ? as many of them are just playing games somebody else invented

Again if people cant be bothered to get a real job or whatever and rely on youtube to get money  its their own problem  especially when they use others content without permission.  They wanted easy money and they can be thankful that worked as long as it did.  And there is enough lets players that dont use commercials. Everyone who does is simply greedy. And if they cant be bothered to contact Nintendo for years to make a deal well...... FAIL! They had alot of time.

I dunno what you know about LPs but  sitting in your basement eating pizza (between the parts)  and constantly  saying bullshit while playing video games is not really SPENDING HOURS TO CREATE CONTENT. The game was made by Nintendo or Sony or MS or whatever.  They LP guys buy a Haupauge HD PVR or whatever and just press RECORD. And then they move the recorded file into the converter and upload it     recording is handled by the PC   converting is handled by the PC  uploading is handled by the PC. The only thing they do is   TALK while they are playing  andWORK 1 minute per part and then they WAIT!   WOW......  Nintendo provides the game  youtube the platform  why would the LPlayer get all the money?

Lets plays = hobby    if people make this into WORK without thinking it through  its their own problem.  I am not playing a game to make money I am playing a game for fun.

And tbh    all those lets players  say stuff like  IT IS FREE ADVERTISING FOR NINTENDO BLAH  Seriously?  Nintendo Sega Sony etc was free advertising/marketing for the LP guys   noone would have found them if they would have played their own programmed game "The Legend of the Whining LP guy" or whatever its name was. They earned a ton of money thanks to Nintendo etc and now their lazy life style comes to an end and they complain...

Sports is something totally different.  First of at its not really a GAME like  Mario is etc. its a business with millions of people being involved  which is already established and people invested years in training etc.  It's hundreds / or thousands (in case of Soccer which was invented in Egypt and perfected in England) of years old depending on what kind of sports it is. And the biggest difference!:  its not using others property without permission.

Contacting Nintendo to negotiate a deal before using their property should be the first thing a sane person should do when making money with Nintendo's stuff.  And if one doesnt think that is necessary or fair  well then the person should actually be sued not just "robbed" of their illegally earned money because thats no punishment at all.

TV channels negotiate deals with the movie industry. They pay a fee to broadcast the  content and then  get income by letting others pay for commercial time.  If youtubers have no interest in negotiating a deal with the property owner then the money made with commercials should be going to the property owner.

Btw most youtubers money will never be taxed.

If they agree on fair deals and pay taxes   I have no problem if they still find a way to make money with youtube.
