Forums - Gaming - How would we know that we were in another Video game crash like the one we had in the 80's?

Piles of dicarded ET cartridges in the streets. Oh, the horror of those dark days...

Only a major decline in revenue within the video game industry will herald a "crash." Specific products might not sell to historical expectations, but that represents the decline of a specific company or sub-market, not the entire industry.

I dont know what the casuals you talk are since there is either gamers or opportunists.

People that just buy the Fifa or COD because they are IN are opportunists same goes for the people that bought Wii because it was IN at the moment.

So there is actually no such thing as casuals. Its mainstreamers/opportunists and real gamers the only difference is if a game is accessible (like angry birds space for example which would  be considered HARDCORE in the 80s/ 90s)  or is  non-accessible with gameplay being a  hurdle/to complicated?

And to the crisis thing I dunno I somewhat feel we already are in a crisis. Its not the same and wont be the same that happened in the 80s because now that gaming is HUGE there will always be a bigger company that buys smaller ones or their IP in case of the small ones going the way of the THQ. So there wont be a real crash anymore.

But again I think we already are in a crisis because the industry is destroying itself with all the micro payments/ DLC/ chapters / DRM / greed whatnot. And since they want to appeal to the people that are actually no real gamers just the games with the biggest marketing campaigns WIN and gameplay and VALUE have less and importance.

Well maybe the industry will crash when all companies turn their backs on the people that made them big and when gaming is NOT that cool anymore or when enough time passed and all the opportunists are gone and we are left with games real gamers dont want and companies that believe they lost all gamers.

When none of the 8th gen consoles pick up after about a year.

The "crash" is dramatically, completely over-exhaturated by history. In reality, it was basically a bad year. Kinda like 2011-12 so to speak. The reason it is called a "crash", is because video games were new at the time. Atari's were bascially the only system, so when consumers began to lose interest in it, a lot of casual, non-gamer observers felt that was the end of video games. It was really just the end of Atari. The "crash" happened in 1983, but I can still remember in 1984 enjoying my family's Colecovision and trips to the arcade to drop quarters in machines. Then in 1985 the NES was launched, and talk of exciting new systems began to reach my town. So basically it was a "down year", not a "crash". Most consumers didn't even notice it, not any more than we might notice the drop off of Wii games in 2011 as Nintendo switched focus to Wii U. The difference today is the industry is much more diverse, large and established. Sony and MS didn't transition at the same time as Nintendo and the games keep coming, even if sales are down.

taggin for later

I just saw The Dark Knight and loved it. So I was thinking since The Batman Arkham games are over wouldn't it be cool if Rocksteady made a game where you play as the Joker? It could be based on the Dark Knight and then show what happens Between the Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, or it could be completely different.

And I like the Bane coat, you can Google search this article, Bane jacket from Dark Knight Rises
How about your suggestions?

I really dont expect there to be a crash anytime soon so no worries

when all the major studios shut down are they all go mobile and stop making games for the gaming consoles.
