Good final day for PDZ. Zelda is now the highest 3DS game on the chart.

Can't wait to see Media Create/Famitsu next week.

I think we're all waiting for Media Create for next week, PDZ is 3DS's last hope to top 3DS 2013. I don't think it will be enough, but who knows?

---

Care to predict the next 3 games? I'm probably wrong, but I'm going to vote Kirby 3DS, Hero Bank (3DS), and Dynasty Warriors 8 (PS4). Realistically, I'll only get 1/3 right and the other 2 will be Japanese games I never heard of.

PDZ Should sell a minimum of 400k FW!

Dragon Quest VII - 722pt (836,654)
Animal Crossing New Leaf - 655pt (721,786)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland - 650pt (488,508)
Tomodachi Collection New Life - 503pt (411,025)

Whoah! Animal Crossing is responsible for the 2012 3DS boost in sales, which put 2013 3DS behind. Maybe PDZ will be big enough to make 3DS at least tie itself YoY.

I'm really surprised Pokemon didn't rip the 3DS for sales.

Is it possible that it does 1m first week?

It has a hell of alot more points than any of those games

i said minimum

400k at least while i say 500k-600k is a safe bet. Of course PDZ can do 800k+, its not impossible!

guess I'm not the only one who dosent like PADZ. After all its the perfect teaching tool for young kids as to what the future of gaming will be for them when they get there 1st iPhone.

RIP Dedicated Handhelds

So much hate. PADZ does not have microtransactions. It has less in common with your average mobile game than Forza 5 and Dead Space 3 have.

I personally don't like the iOS game. I don't really get how it could become so popular.

Then again I don't really understand how Candy Crush can become so popular when games like that have been around for really long.

I agree. Honestly I hate Candy crush type of games, they don't lure me whatsoever. PDz doesn't look like a game I'd enjoy whatsoever, it does look like the next big franchise in Japan though. It *might* be the next big thing though.. we'll have to wait and see.

I agree, looking at preorders it might give the 3DS a massive boost. MH+Pokemon should give the 3DS huge December numbers as well, Pokemon historically has performed fantastically well in December. Won't be surprised if it gets pushed over 4 million this month.

I think that Boutros and PHantom Link are right.

If we search the success of Puzzle and Dragon in the gameplay, we will be lost forever.

But games like this, or Bejeweled, are exaclty games for non gamers: easy, entertaining, even a little dumb and random in their "gameplay", perhaps... But if a game like this gets spinned by word of mouth, for whatever reason, it becomes a social phenomenon (and not a game anymore), and its sales explode, expecially involving people who is not deeply interested in games.

I remember an interview with Brian Provinciano (Retro City Rampage) where he said that he can't really technically explain the success of certain mobile or handheld games.

Off topic a little but the hate Candy Crush Saga gets is so petty. It's a well made game that's excellently presented and deserves all the success it gets. It gets a lot of people into gaming who otherwise wouldn't, which I imagine is why the occasional 15-25 year old male feels so threatened by it.

It's great to see Puzzles and Dragons do so well on the preorder charts. Dedicated portable gaming has seen an incredible decline over the last five years and if you expect the market to stay somewhat relevant in the next five years it is going to need these titles to do so. If you don't like it, that's fine but there a hell of a lot of people that do.

not so sure about that, unless you mean casual iOS games. Smartphone games are all that my 2 sisters play now and they used to be fairly hardcore gamers playing games like Zelda and Prince of Persia etc. Humans are lazy by nature, make something simpler and humans will jump on it.
