It will have an amazing debut but i also think AC is the perfect game to buy digitally so i expect a pretty high ratio. On top of that with corona and people not really going outside.

Animal Crossing is...WOW!
Not bad for some "casual, life-simulator" game.

I can see women who were attracted to Animal Crossing's previous entries dominate the player base in New Horizons (as shown in recent Japanese commercials). Very few franchises or games can do that, and gaming has had problems in expanding its demographic. This will really open up the user base for the Switch.

These don't come close to approaching past records.  They were in the thousands.   Somewhere over 5000 for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd on PSP I believe is the top record. But it's tough to compare today vs then for a few reasons.

Since the point totals simply represent the number of pre-orders at this specific video game store chain, as the number of stores fluctuate, so do the number of pre-orders.  Lately, COMG have closed a lot of stores. So even a highly anticipated game today would have no chance of reaching past records. 

Digital sales are the other major factor.  Most of those records came before digital stores became common.

Yeah, all those factors make a lot of sense.  Was just wondering how AC was stacking up against other recent releases.  Guess I could just scroll back through the thread.

It stacks up quite well against other titles this generation.  Super Smash Bros Ultimate has the record at 935. 700 may put it in 2nd place.  I'd have to look to be sure.

Splatoon was higher than Smash and i think Sword/Shield were about 741. I actually think AC has a chance to surpass that!
