I hope ARMS doesn't deter Nintendo, especially in Japan. Hands on impressions have been positive and those who have played the testpunches appeared to have liked it. But for some reason, in Japan at least, it hasn't quite taken off like we would hope. Maybe it's the fighting game genre in general for Japan (outside of Smash of course) or what not.
It's a game developed by the Mario Kart team so I had little doubt of what they could do. Hopefully it'll gain some legs post release, especially as content updates roll around for the game.
As for Splatoon 2, it continues to amaze me. Seeing it on a new console and outclass DQXI on PS4 (not combined with the 3DS) shows Nintendo's presence in Japan is as strong as ever and it'll be a vital series for years to come. For the original to outshine FFXV, which was mostly considered a PS4 game in Japan, and for the sequel to be where it's at against DQ, which maybe a bigger franchise in Japan than FF nowadays, is nothing short of amazing.
